Can I Have A Copy Site Where I Can Do & Test Changes?

I'm wanting to do a lot of changes to my website but I don't want anytime where customers can't view the site or where they see the site mid change. So, is it possible for me to make a copy site where I can make changes and then get them perfect and then do them on my main site?

In a nutshell... YES... you can have a "duplicate" site...

But a much better way is to have a copy of all your code files on your local machine (your hard drive).

Then... using the OVER-RIDE system, you make changes to the file on your local drive first. THEN you make a backup of that file's counterpart on the server. THEN you FTP the copy you edited (the local drive one) to your server.

In this way, you always have the latest (edited) version of a file on your local drive. Secondly, if you make an error, you just revert to the backup on the server, and try the whole edit again.

If you do this with a duplicate site, you can get very confused as to what file is what, and what is updated and what isn't.

You can install Zen Cart in its own folder with its own database (copy the data from the live site, if you like) and test your changes there before you move them to your live site. I have several test versions of sites and prototypes for sites.
