Another 2006 MySQL server has gone away issue

At first I was in skepticism when trying on the tip you linked me to. I was like, "it shouldn't be this, as the problem is MySQL and not some version check"...

But I guess, "what the heck"

To my pleasant surprise, it did worked! I edited the version check .ini from my server and I got into the admin area (after logging in) instantaneously!!

Been trying to figure this out since few months (since June!) and it has finally paid out! I just about to change my domain hosting company because of this.

Thanks Dr Byte! You rock!! :bigups:

Re: Another 2006 MySQL server has gone away issue

The root of this problem has never had anything to do with a MySQL issue.

The problem is that various things in your store do need to talk to external resources (get shipping quotes, get payment detail updates from gateway, send payment transactions, check for new versions, etc). If your server's configuration is somehow blocking those from happening normally, then the timeouts that occur from those blocks or delays can manifest in the 2006 MySQL has gone away message.

So, the fact that turning off the ZC Version Check has stopped the errors from happening ... means that your hosting company's webserver configuration and/or firewall configuration is preventing your site from doing the external communications that it normally needs to do. I would keep my eyes wide open for other problems with your server config.
