Setting up category pictures to sub-categories on main page problem

Hey, I'm new here and I have a question about setting up my main store page: http://cart.kcdcskateshop.com/

Basically, when you click on it, you see images of the t-shirt products and on top you see the categories to that sub-category (5Boro -> 5Boro t-shirts, Substance -> Substance t-shirts, etc.). What I'd like to have is to see the main categories' images when you first come into the store, i.e. 5Boro, Zoo York, Coda, KCDC, etc. Then, when you click on a particular image/link, you will be able to see everything from that vendor. Basically, making category links and images.

Right now, my main categories are Hats, Shirts, Decks, etc. Each of those have sub categories of the vendor name (Coda, KCDC, Hopps, etc.). Should I have made the main categories as the vendors and not as the product type?

Thanks for all of your help!!!!

Re: Setting up category pictures to sub-categories on main page problem

I think I would have used the categories that you have and used the manufacturer's field to discriminate vendor's name.

Then categories sidebox would show the categories and manufacturers sidebox would show the vendor's name list.

It would take a pretty straight forward edit to display the manufacturers / vendors on the entry page to the shop.
