Gaining control over header menu

clyde,

I'm working on another mod, much more complicated than this one, and I'm wondering if you might know if there is any documentation on using the folders 'extra_cart_actions', 'extra_datafiles', etc. and the override system in ZC.

I think I get how it works for the /extra_definitions folder in the languages/english/ folder: the cart reads any files in there and adds the constants in those files to the cart.

Thanks,
Will

Check the wiki www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Developers

I haven't used the "extra_cart_actions"

I use "extra_datafiles" to define page name and database table names:

define('FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER', 'testimonials_manager');
define('FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_ALL', 'display_all_testimonials');
define('FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_ADD', 'testimonials_add');

define('FILENAME_DEFINE_TESTIMONIALS_ADD', 'define_testimonials_add');

define('TABLE_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER', DB_PREFIX . 'testimonials_manager');

so far you have chatted with the totally zenned - wait until us newbies get a hold of this!

I would like to know more about this --the links at top are confusing to organize at this pt in my understanding of the program and the links in the middle are catagory driven so ????

Well, both menus are sort of 'category driven'.
In the screenshot, the red box contains the header links and the pink box is the categories sidebox. ZenCart will automatically populate both with all your top-level categories that are active and have products in them. You can change the order they appear by changing the sort order in the admin.

I made this mod because while I do want all my active categories to be in the sidebox, it looks like crap to have sooo many links in the header. So this mod lets you turn off certain top-level categories (top-level categories means categories that have no parent catogory above them) to clean up the look of your header.

Does that help any? :smile:

No, you can't switch the navigation links on the side on/off separately, at least not without rewriting the categories sidebox module. :yuck:
The cart will 'hide' categories that are either disabled (through your settings in the admin) or empty (no active products), but it hides them from both the top menu and categories sidebox.

That's kinda why I wrote this mod, because I wanted to have all my categories show in the categories sidebox but be able to choose which categories to show in the header menu.
