Urgent: Can't access admin settings

Hi, we can't access Tools > Admin settings suddenly. It has stopped working and keeps going to the catalog homepage. Please help.

... and what has changed recently? Has your host upgraded something? Did you try to add a mod?

Before installing admin profiles we remember it was working. After installing admin profiles, it has stopped working for some reason. We then uninstalled admin profiles but the problem is still there. How did this happen? What do we do to make the admin settings accessible again?

Did you recently add the new security patch?

If you remove it does everything start working again?

We checked with our host and they confirmed that they did not do any upgrade. We don't understand why we can't access Tools > Admin settings. Please help us.

Since there are no overrides in Admin, I would just try re-uploading the whole admin folder with files, overwriting what's there. You would lose any admin-related mods.

Hi, that's not very helpful. We restored what we did but it does not work.

For those with a similar problem who are reading this thread, my thinking was that if the problem is caused by a corrupted file (and it probably is, regardless of how it got that way) a complete admin file overwrite would almost have to fix things, at a cost of a couple of minutes time.

All files. All database settings. Etc.

Good question. And exactly the reason why one should always test addons on a test version of one's site, and never on a live site.

Backups are good, and very important, and often useful for recovering from problems such as this. However, if you had tested on a test site first, you most likely wouldn't have run into a problem on your live site like this.
