Can't install? PLEASE HELP

Hi, i am in the process of building a new web site and need a shooping cart. i am using a Just Host and one of their templates for my site. in my control panel there is a link for ZenCart i have followed the instructions to install but it stops and i get the following message.

• You chose to install in the main directory of the domain transport4pets.com, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain transport4pets.com (path="/home/transpo6/public_html/").You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
  admin
  images
  index.php

THIS IS DOUBLE DUTCH TO ME !!!!
can someone please help me and explain what i need to do. this is the first time i have built a web site and everything is new. THANKS.
All i want to do is be able to accept online payments for services.

It seems to be saying that you have admin and images folders and an index.php file in the root directory (public_html) already, and the installer won't overwrite them. What else do you have installed on your site?

this is a new web site i am building from a template. at the moment all i have done to the template is to add information to my home page, about us page and contact page. No pictures or uploaded files ETC. i dont know what a root directory is?
you can actually see the web site go to https://www.transport4pets.com the header etc is a template. i have just added the writing on each page.

ALSO, when i click on the install, there is a blank box which asks me to install into directory.
it says : Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: http://domain/).
Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for http://domain/name/ enter name only). This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created!

so i have left this box empty!!!!

I don't wish to sound too pessimistic, but if you are finding the following "double dutch":-

You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
admin
images
index.php

... you have quite a steep learning curve ahead of you.

Perhaps you should start a few notches down the ladder... understand directories and file trees on a computer, and how to add/remove stuff via a FTP program.

Then, when you have the basics, you should look at installing stuff (any stuff, not just zc) on the server.

Your lack of knowledge is not a zencart issue, it's basic web management and there are lots of tutorials on the WWW about this...

You're welcome to come back when you have issues specific to zencart, but you need to learn the basics.

all i want to do is start a new web site and have a shopping cart added to it. as far as i was aware i could simply do this by going to my control panel clicking on ZenCart install and i fully expected to have a shopping cart on my site. maybe i am stupid?

Here's what's happening:

Your website builder template installed the admin and image folders in the root directory (which is your domain name, with no subdirectory after it) It also uses the index.php file for the home page.

Zencart installs both those folders (as well as many others) and also uses index.php, so you can't have both the template design and Zencart at the top of your site.

Your options:

1. Leave the web builder template where it is, and install Zencart in a subdirectory (you'll provide the name in the 'box' you mentioned - 'store' would be an example).

2. Remove the web builder template, and just use Zencart as your whole site. I would recommend this option. I would also recommend that you install Zencart manually by using FTP rather than your host's auto-installer. Read through the Tutorials for help with that.

Also, please remember, none of us was born knowing this stuff. We were all where you are now at one time. You learn it by doing, pretty much.

I fully sympathise with you... but I am simply stating a fact. If you are having difficulty understanding such elementary stuff (and we were all there once, so it's not a criticism), you will spend your life on this forum seeking solutions (which you probably won't understand.)

By indicating that you need to learn the basics of web management, I am actually pointing you in the right direction.

Here's an idea... Call up ten postings at random on this forum. If you fully understand 5 of them, then you should just scrape by managing your zencart. If you still find this double dutch, then my original observation is accurate. Learn the basics...

Please don't feel offended,. I am not criticising you, just offering the help you need at this point in your webmaster career. :smile:

i think i will do as you advise and simply use ZenCart on its own and not try adding it to the site i am trying to build.
