Need help to remove left and right column from template

I am integrating my new template. For this, i don't want left and right column. Where do i remove completely. I don't want to display et all.

Your help will be appreciated

Admin... Configuration... Layout Settings....

Look for global column disable...

My template is little bit different. It has flash in header. Main page have few images sourended text with different alignment. And also i want to edit footer section. I am new to php. I browsed this forum. I found to edit tpl_header, tpl_footer, tpl_main_page. I had opened these files and checked. But i don't know where to edit to get desired result.

I duplicated the default template to edit.

The left column box are not show even I set the column box to on. It only see the left column background colour.

Pls help!!
