Orders submitted but payment isn't being taken

Been searching around for this and not finding what I am looking for or my search criteria isn't correct. Just created a new zencart setup 1.3.8 auto installed via godaddy's control panel. No SSL is setup yet due to testing purposes for right now. Business paypal account is setup and created a demo product to order. Works fine if you pay with paypal account directly, pay with a credit card money is not debit from the account. We get the orders just fine but payment isn't processing for some reason and not sure why. Using Paypal IPN feature.

I checked curl/ipn tests that are in the extras folder and everything passes. The log folder is set to 777 but no logs are being deposited and no email report is being sent when debug mode is on. I placed an order four days ago and let it set and yet money isn't being taken out of my account. I tried this with a regular bank card (B of A) and paypal business credit card. Not sure what to look for since I am not getting any log/report to tell me what is wrong.

Where do I go from here?

Update my own thread. Installed a copy of zen by hand/manual install and setup SSL.

Nothing, same as before. Orders are not debiting money out of the account. Doesn't matter if I use IPN standard or Express checkout, orders just sit there. And because it is not logging any information for me to figure this out this doesn't help the situation.

What you describe is very unusual.
Which payment modules do you have enabled? Have you clicked "Remove" on all the modules you're not using? (setting them "inactive" is not the same as totally disabling them by clicking "Remove")

We get the orders just fineSo, by that statement, do you mean that you see the order recorded in your Zen Cart admin?
If so, then in your list of orders the second column shows the payment and shipping modules used for the order. What are they?
How do those compare against the orders recorded when you did receive payment?

I had a weird one yesterday. :wacko:

A customer purchased a $3.00 downloadable item with a $2.50 GC and she receives a subscriber discount of 5% (it listed it as $0.16) so she had a balance due of $0.34.

She chose PayPal, was directed to PP through the website, logged in to PP and "paid" the difference. She was then re-directed to the checkout success page of my website to get the download link but here is the rub. . .

The payment never actually went through at PayPal. Zen-cart says she still owes $0.34 but that it was a completed transaction using GC/DC and freecharger as the payment method. :shocking: PayPal was never actually debited so zen-cart was right that she still owed money BUT it sent the order emails, etc. Shouldn't it have re-directed her back to the site to actually choose another payment method if there was a problem with the PP payment? :unsure:

It did not set the order status to complete, it set it to pending but as far as the customer knew the order was paid in full and she was waiting for the download link.

Here is her email message: "It took me to pay pal and I went thru the process but when I later checked my paypal account it was not there"

In this case it is only a few cents so it isn't a big deal. I have had other PP checkouts before and since without a problem. The thing that worries me is if it is not an isolated incident and it happens on a larger order.

I am running 1.3.8a with all patches and suggested fixes plus a lot of mods (listed below). I only have four payment mods installed: freecharger, check/mo, QBMS Credit Card, and PayPal Express. None of the others are installed (all red lights and +install boxes)

I have tried repeatedly to install the FEC but it loops with GC and right now I have a lot of them out there. So it is not active. I do have Easy Sign Up and Login active.

I did have the debug on and I found the logs! :hug:

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to interpret the data. :no: :lookaroun

Anyone know what to look for?

Post a link where I can download a zipped copy of them to review.

Would it be ok to PM the link to you? I did not edit the logs and it has the customer email, phone number, etc.

The logs simply show that the customer went to PayPal, logged in, and came back to your store and proceeded past the shipping-selections page since free-shipping was applied to the order. The logs look as though the customer may have gotten past the checkout-payment screen, but show no evidence of clicking Submit on the checkout-confirmation screen.

So, either they misunderstood that the way Express Checkout works is that they go to PayPal to login, and then return to the store, and there they complete the checkout, and still have to click Submit on the checkout-confirmation screen.

Or, if the order shows in your admin as paid by GC/Coupon, instead of as "paypalwpp", then something went awry during the confirmation step and it decided to use the coupon for complete checkout instead of actually collecting payment.

Yes, in the admin it shows that it was paid by GC/DC instead of paypalwpp. That is what was confusing.

The customer also stated that she did go to PayPal, logged in, etc. and she thought that the payment went through until I emailed her and asked about it. She went back into PayPal and found no record of the transaction.

Weird!

Well, hopefully this was an isolated incident. If you have any insight or ideas to prevent it from happening again I am all ears (well it is on screen so eyes, lol). Let me know if I can do anything to help solve the mystery.
