cant get into admin after admin folder change

First off I did upgrade to 1.3.8a that went fine,, Im also using a template for my store.

I back up the the store then went to install the security patch that seemed to go well also. I then went to change the admin folder and admin to a more secure name that's when I started having issues.

I made all the changes but I kept getting permission errors. when I check the configure permission there were just xxx in it and got an error trying to save the changes in the file. I did updaye right on the server using filezilla. After a few trys I did get it to work but now when I bring up my store across the top of the header it says

Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /mysite/store/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file (read-only, CHMOD 644 or 444 are typical). You may need to use your webhost control panel/file-manager to change the permissions effectively. Contact your webhost for assistance.

I've checked the permissions in admin/includes config.php and permissions are set to 644.

I reinstalled the back up and Im still getting that same message when I bring the store up.

Help how do I get rid of that, its not good thing to have that splashed across the screen when someone brings up the store lucky the store is new and Im the only customer so far.

Please help so I can get this security working

Thanks

Evan

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

You said you checked the permissions and they were 644. But, the warning said that "644 or 444 are typical". Did you try 444? Perhaps your hosting company's server configuration requires 444 instead?

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

Thanks for the reply,

I did try that and logged off the server, logged back on its back to 644.

I never had that happen before making these modifications

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

As the FAQ says, if your FTP program won't let you change the permissions as low as 444, you may have to use your hosting company's File Manager in their control panel in order to do that change.

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

I went into file mgr. in the config.php under admin/includes I can change the permissions.

644= user, group, world read and user write
444= removes the write from the user I don't want that do I?

The admin folder it's self is at 755 and all the sub dir's inside are at 755 all the files inside are at 644?

Is that right?

Thanks

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

First off I installed zencart using fantasico, the server co said it was easier.

Today I installed the security patch in 1.38a, that seemed to go well. when I change the admin folder and assoc. file names in admin/includes/config.php according to the tutorial when I save to the server and try to log on I get system setup required page.

If I change everything back to admin and delete the extra 2 files I can log into admin no issues.

I also have this records companies block on my side bar now.

I could use some suggestions

Thanks

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

Did you change the information in both configure files? Are you sure your changes were uploaded to the server? Check the permissions.

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

I tried to change the folder name on my computer folder and didn't FTP it. When I tried to access the admin log-in page it is blank. I went the my hosting account and changed it there and then it said it was an error. I went back in and changed it back to admin and now it is back to a blank log-in page. What am I doing wrong? :( Any help would be great. I haven't done the patch yet. Thank You.

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

Thank you for the reply AFO

I followed the instructions and made the changes in admin/includes/config.php the permissions were set at 644. I changed the name of the admin folder also. You said files, I looked in includes/config.php is there or was there something to change in there that I missed?

That file was also set at 644 but I got this warning message across my header that it vunerable so I set it to 444.

Can you tell me what needs to be changed in includes/config.php Please.

Thanks
Evan

Re: cant get into admin after admin folder change

Ok I fixed it, Im not sure if it's because I installed zencart thought fantastico or not but I deleted the

define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home/mystore.com/www/public/admin/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/mystore.com/www/public/');

from admin/includes/config.php and I was able to log into my admin

Again dont ask me why but could be something to be tried.

This was where my problem was too. Instead of deleting these lines, I realized that at the end of the CATALOG line I needed to put the store site.

I'm on hostgator so my two lines looked like:
define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '/home/username/public_html/site.com/secretadmin/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '/home/username/public_html/site.com/');

And then it worked. I didn't have the /site.com/ at the end of the CATALOG line previously and was getting the system setup screen in the admin area.
Hope that helps anyone else with the same problem!
