for something i know is possible 'cause i've seen a site without it. I don't want The new products side box to appear. Where can i go to remove it? I just want one category. that's it.

turn it off in admin-->tools-->layout boxes controller

yes that did get rid of it in side box but it's still displayed in center.

sorry stevesh no go.something amiss.lost control.made a mess i'm afraid. unless someone has a spark of genius....When i think that all i want is to just display 10 products on the page with an add to cart and proceed to check out and a simple bank transfer as mode of payment, maybe i'll just do it in php ....next life?:dontgetit

fixed it by starting from scratch and yes index listing is the place.

Another question: When i created a new category after having deleted all the categories that zen cart was displaying by default, i noticed: Product Master Category: ID# 67.
Why not ID# 01?
AND was it the right thing to do to clean the slate before entering new categories and products?
