Customer name when logged in

I would like to have the customers name - when he is logged in - before 'my account'. It should look like this:

Customers name My Account | Log out

I have edited /includes/templates/MyTemplate/common/tpl_header.php
In this file I have added

<?php echo zen_address_label($_SESSION['customer_id'], $_SESSION['customer_default_address_id' ]); ?>

before

<li><a href="<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_ACCOUNT, '', 'SSL'); ?>"><?php echo HEADER_TITLE_MY_ACCOUNT; ?></a></li>

The result was the customers name plus his complete address.

But when I changed customer_default_address_id into e.g. customers_firstname etc. it showed only a comma.

I have spent a much time but without success.
As my knowledge of databases is zero, I would like to ask you for help.

However, I have already tried this mod. But after logging in it shows:

 John's Account | Log Out

But I would like it this way:

 John Smith **My Account | Log Out**

where John Smith is the custmers name without a link - and *My Account * has a link to the My Account page.

I have already spend hours and hours, without any success.
