Per Item Shipping-Adding a surcharge for certain States

Hi,

I offer per item shipping, $5.99 per item, and $1.00 each additional item for shipments across the US.
I need to add a surcharge for shipments to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Woud anyone have any advice. I have not come up with a solution in any of the threads I've searched, nor any add on mods.

You could build a Zone for who gets the extra charge and then test the shipping zone to see if that is matching this zone ... then, if it matches, add the extra charge ...

This allows you to add on to the Zone if you want to later have more places with the additional charge ...

It takes a bit of coding, but it can be done ...

Another way is to clone the item shipping module and build a Zone for those with the extra charge and build a Zone for everyone else without the extra charge and just add that extra charge to the Handling Fee ...
