Ultimate SEO URL / General SEO URL question

This question is about the Ultimate SEO URL add on.
When first entering my site I notice that all links initially are along the lines of:

http://mysite.com/generated_seo_url.html?zenid=efc18beik385ldks44dkfjd9

This changes as soon as the first click is made - the ?zenid is then dropped from the url.

My main idea when going to SEO URLs was to help the search engines that have problems with dynamically generated URLs index my site.

However, if the first link on a site a search engine is presented with is in the form of a dynamic url ( the ? being the problem ) doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of having SEO friendly URLs?

I mean if an engine won't get past the first link to make the ?zenid= go away, won't it just leave the site?

Re: Ultimate SEO URL / General SEO URL question

I'm no SEO expert (Melanie may be along), but everything I read (especially Google itself) says that creating 'SEO-friendly URLs' is a waste of time these days. It seems that concentrating on your site's content is a much better use of your time.

Re: Ultimate SEO URL / General SEO URL question

Thanks for the reply. I've heard the same, and I know big SEs like Google are capable of crawling and indexing dynamic sites.

But there are quite a few smaller engines that may not be able to crawl the site and I would like to make it more appealing to them.

I run many sites and, for whatever reason, the pure html sites always get better rankings than the dynamic sites. Now I've never used 'fake static' pages before, so I don't know if the outcome will be the same, or, like you said, a waste of time.

But the initial link holding the zenid does bother me as it seems that it would defeat the whole purpose.
