shipworks and paypal echecks and problems

we are having a problem, here is the issue:

1. an order comes in through zen and is paid by paypal echeck
2. the order comes in and through our payment settings for paypal IPN it is set to pending, but for some reason it gets marked processing first then pending - at the exact same time
3. so we pull our orders from shipworks, the pending echecks come through

this is a problem because we then ship things that are not cleared

Ok, after talking with shipworks and coming to a conclusion there is something wrong with the way ZC is handling echeck orders.

As soon as an echeck comes in, it should goto pending because in our payments setup, that is how orders that are not completed are handled, but what our ZC is doing is setting them to Processing and Pending at the same time, therefore they goto shipworks and get shipped.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this? we lost out on 2 next day air packages that were paid by echeck and had not cleared but we lost hundreds of dollars because of this glitch, please see screenshot from above.
