favicon ?

I am trying to get browsers to display my favicon.ico file

I uploaded favicon.ico file to the root directory

I edited includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php to define the file define('FAVICON','favicon.ico');

But there is no icon, regardless of browser

What else do I need to do?

Re: favicon ?

OK I got it to where it will appear in Google Chrome and Safari, but not in Fire Fox or IE.

What's the deal?

Re: favicon ?

Hhhhmmm - the main search reveals more than 300 posts containing the word favicon ... surely one of the threads or an FAQ already posted has the answer?

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: favicon ?

As always, a link to your site would allow us to see if the favicon is showing in our browsers ...

Re: favicon ?

As Kim suggests, there are many forum threads that already deal with this in depth. however the quick summary is different browsers and different versions of those browsers have different criteria for deciding whether to use the favicon. Sometimes you have to bookmark the site (less common in modern versions). Sometimes you may need to clear your browser cache. But if it shows up in one, it's there and recognized, and that's all you can do.
