Russian spider spider26.yandex.ru

Hi All,
This spider is seemingly always online on my site (version 1.3.6). Is it doing any harm and what is it's purpose? How do I block it (I'm a novice) - Fasthosts say I can't block it on the server which leaves me struggling a bit:wacko:

It's a Russian search engine. Quite why it's so interested in your site I don't know.

If it always comes from the same IP address you could block that IP. Although Fasthosts may not allow you to block a particular spider, I would expect they to allow you to block IP addresses or ranges of them.

Here is the response from Fasthosts when I asked about blocking this IP...

Dear Neil

We are unable to do this at network or server level, however I am sure that you can code IP checks into your pages that would redirect certain IP ranges to one page, and other addresses to another.

I am afraid this is above our support scope.
