Discount based on referral

I have a client who wants to offer a referral program.
Here is what they want it to do:
Member Refers Friend
Friend becomes member
Friend makes purchase
Original Referer gets $10 credited to their account that can only be used for future purposes - not for cash back
Reward only on first purchase / 1 time
Reward credited automatically - they do not want the referer to have to use a coupon or coupon code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I posted this earlier in another thread, but equally works for you - it's perfect for what you want, or at least 90% in any case.

Our friend Hem has done a great job with the Reward Points program, which works beautifully!! It doesn't yet have the Reward for referral built in as far as I know, but it has everything else you need and is seamlessly integrated with the order process. You could manually add the refer a friend points.

The way I am doing it is configuring Zen to send me an email when someone tells a friend, then, when the friend registers with that email address I add the points manually to the referring users account, and voila!, next time the user logs in to their account, the points are waiting there to be spent or accumulated.
