Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

Maybe it's the gargantuan amount of meta keywords.

However, the products do show here.

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

Hi, sorry.. been working on it and somehow my tpl_modules_products_all.php had corrupted. I reverted to a backup copy and all is well....

Now, just need to figure out why the products in my categories are defaulting sort order old to new instead of the other way around!

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

Ahh I see, I've never used that before -

Will it be classed as keyword stuffing?

Well, I don't know all the ins and outs of Google Indexing and I wouldn't waste too much time reading all the conflicting information out there. All I know is, adding these keywords works. I'm top of Google with so many of these key searches that it's really quite unbelievable. I beat Juicy Couture in most searches :-)

What I would say though is that all the keywords in my meta tags are also contained in my descriptions.. at least the majority are... my key tags are just made up of different configurations of my descriptions.

Seems to work. Type "ladies juicy jeans" into google for example. unbelievable that I'm nearly #1. Be more specific, like my tags and type "ladies pink juicy couture jeans" then I am #1. The key tags are the key

Your right they do seem to be working well, hence my interest - it does seem to conflict with what Google says they do regarding keyword stuffing, but hey, if it works...

:D

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

Yeah, I know. I thought it was keyword stuffing too but technically since the same words are in the description then it's not. The trick is to ensure that the words in the 'description' and 'title' are also in the 'meta-keywords' and try not to use words in the meta-keywords that aren't in the other two areas... Then I think it's not really keyword stuffing.

I see you're a web designer. I seen your site, voodish. Very nice..... Do you have any tips for me on how I might improve the overall look and feel of my own site at https://www.limelites.co.uk ? I'm always trying to improve it.... It's my first site and I've been looking at it for so long that it starts to look too familiar... A fresh pair of eyes, especially a web designers eyes, might be able to offer suggestions on improvement?

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

My initial impressions are that it is very good, clearly laid out and easily navigable; hard to believe this is your first Zen Cart, you must have been working on it a while!

I might make the logo a bit more prominent, really tell me this site is LIMELITES. Maybe put the name before the Graphic.

Perhaps a contrasting background to the main body area, would help draw the users eye into the page.

A different contrasting colour for the main sidebar menu too

Here's an idea, literally a few mins, so completely rough, but gives you slight alternative idea:

Also, have you considered SEO URLs?

Hmmmm, I like that!! What colour would I make the rest of the page (left and right empty white areas).... on a 24" screen they take up a lot of the page... I like the black, but would it look alright against the white spaces?

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

I would use #E9E6E1 for the BG and not white - however at 1920px on a 24, it will take a fair amount of the screen with your fixed width.

You could always be brave and create a % width to compensate for those higher res screens; though it's more work for little gain imo - we use 24 / 22 / 20 and 17's and none of them look out of place with your fixed width.

TBH, I would be more concerned about making the design compatible without horizontal scrolling to 1024px, as that makes up much more of the average users resolution at roughly 38% to a minimal 1.5% for 1920px.

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

Yeah, I used to have an auto % width way back at the start but decided to ditch it. I may have another look at that now I've learned so much, I'm sure I'd be able to use a conditional CSS statement to detect monitor resolution of the user and adjust to suit. I seem to remeber though, the site looked naff at wider resolutions if it's stretched out past 1020px since the centre column just stretches out wide and looks out of place.... think that's why I ended up changing it....

As for the colour you suggested, I had a look in Firebug and it looks really nice, but unfortunately, I've noticed something that means I'll have to stick with white. The html table we've been using to upload our item descriptions has a background-color:#ffffff; statement in every single ad! I never noticed it until now, but it basically means I'd have to revise every single ad individually as they're not CSS controlled tables, just plain old html  So, unless you know a way to bulk-edit 570 descriptions (ctrl+f background-color:#ffffff; replace with '') then I'm afraid it's going to have to be white :(

Also, not so sure how I'd have got the whole left column background to go black on my site as there'd always be a white area above the left column due to my insane padding and styling :lookaroun

Re: HELP!! All Products Not Displaying The Products.

The Colour suggested was for your overall background colour, not the centre section where the product images and descriptions live; however

If you would like to bulk edit your fixed in-line style, use Dreamweaver:

  1. Ctrl+F
  2. Find in: Folder... select folder
  3. Find: background: #fff;
  4. Replace: background: transparent;
  5. Replace All

NOTE: Dreamweaver will re-write all the files on the fly and save them, so PLEASE make backups before trying that out.

3/4 are examples, but I'm sure you got that.

To get the sidebar completely black, you could use a background image in the correct div to touch up where you have padding issues.

As long as the over lying divs are set to "background: transparent;" the touch-up background image will show through and make the whole sidebar show whatever colour you specify with your CSS / image combo.

At the end of the day, the site is perfectly usable and has some nice features as it is - I would concentrate efforts on continuing the SEO development, as you seem to have a good grasp of what's required. Nice site :)
