Newsletter mod ? best option ?

HI there,

I'm looking to create a customized newsletter sign up where you can check an option box to subscribe to perhaps a particular brand you like, sale items etc..

I still want it to be basic... just email address.. and option boxes.

Once this user subscribes they are added to database and emails can be sent to this user and others whom select only that particular brand for example. Thus targeting their likes.

I have seen a Mod called Newsletter Center but with no responses to posts from February it looks abandoned and if I have troubles for any reason I will be stuffed.

If there are any other mods that achieve my goal please advise.

I already use the basic newsletter subscribe mod which is excellent.

If anyone uses a mod that achieves this a link to your site to check it out would also be useful.

I have been fiddling with the Newsletter Center mod on a live test site and have finally gotten it to work, I just need to do a few more changes and some formatting(CSS) work and I will launch it on the live site. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are comfortable and familiar with the zen structure and modifying files.

Another avenue that we took in the mean time is to add the export email addresses mod, download the email addresses and import it into a better newsletter program.

Not comfortable with php coding though or messing to much with database.

Was it easy enough to install?

My main reason for wanting this is so I can separate customers into their preferences when sending email. So I can target products/brands they are interested in.

I don't want to send one mass email to everyone.

When you get the newsletter mod up and working can you post a link to your site? I would like to see it in action.

I'd recommend setting up a clone live test site and giving it a whirl, it's relatively straightforward to install although there are files to merge. I have a lot going on right now with different integrations of phplist and wordpress along with other mods and I can't remember offhand what some of the issues were. It was nothing major but there were a few PITA issues and I am now working on styling etc.

I think that it might be easier to add a blank sidebox, from the downloads section, and paste in the phplist code for the subscribe function. I haven't had a chance to get back to the newsletter integration yet but I wanted to try that out to see if it was easier and allowed more options. Although that way won't have any communication between zencart and phplist to allow customers to change or delete their newsletter preferences through the zencart MyAccount interface.

I may end up creating a test site and give this a go myself. Just got squeeze in the time.
