Looking for help - "check stock" button needed.

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct place, but here's it is anyway.

One of my vendors supply a csv file with all of their products and whether a product are in stock or not.
I would like to have a button on the product page that says, "Check Stock."
When "Check Stock" is clicked, stock status for that product is displayed on the product page, or brings up a pop-up with this information.

I would think were was a solution out there somewhere, but I have not found it.
Can any of you help get pointed in the right direction? I have very limited PHP knowledge, but not afraid to learn.
