How do I edit the reviews table in the database?

Ok, I've sorted my reviews so that only the customer's first name shows, following the advice on some other threads on here.

Now I have just 3 existing reviews and I'd really like to remove the last name from these. As I understand it from previous threads, I just need to go into the review tables in the database and edit them.

Er... where are these? I've tried searching with developers tool kit and in the files, but not really sure what I am looking for...

Can anyone help?

(Am using 1.3.8 and was set up using Fantastico so I didn't set up the database myself)

You can't fiddle with the database from Zencart. You should have a control panel in your hosting account which should have a database section which should include phpMyAdmin. That's the program you want to use.

Re: How do I edit the reviews table in the database?

Right, found the phpadmin. But I have to say I don't have a clue what to do next. Is this something that I shouldn't be messing with, or is it easy to just go in and change a line somewhere. If the latter, can anyone advise? thanks. sorry for being so clueless

Re: How do I edit the reviews table in the database?

If I recall correctly, the reviews data only stores the customer number, and that number is used to extract the customer's name, which is then displayed.
Don't touch the database tables -- if you don't know what you're doing in phpMyAdmin, I recommend not touching it.

To remove the last name from being displayed, you'll have to customize the code that displays the name in the reviews module and template. It's been discussed elsewhere on the forum a few times.

Re: How do I edit the reviews table in the database?

thanks. I've fixed the future reviewers though, following the threads I found on here.
Anyone else know of any way of just changing these 3 existing reviews. It's not the end of the world but if there is a relatively easy way of doing it, that would be great.

Re: How do I edit the reviews table in the database?

Oops. I was wrong.

You can go into phpMyAdmin and change the name manually:

  1. open phpMyAdmin
  2. select your Zen Cart database from the pulldown menu
  3. click on the "reviews" table in the left list
  4. Click on the "Browse" tab across the top
Edit one record at a time, as follows:
  5. click on the pencil icon next that starts the row of each record you want to edit
  6. the next screen will show you all the meta data for that review in edit mode
  7. find the customers_name field, and make appropriate changes
  8. click the "go" or "save" button at the bottom of the screen to store your adjustments
    repeat as necessary
