PayPal Standard vs PayPal Express Checkout

I'd like to know if with PayPal Standard (IPN) the order amount is immediately charged to customers, or if it's not.

With PayPal Express Checkout the order amount is only authorized, so i can void or approve it... is it the same with PayPal Standard?

I'd like to check order before to have the customer credit card charged.

That is a paypal problem. You should ask them the question how they handle the payments for different products.

It's not a "paypal problem".

The Website Payments Standard module doesn't give you the option of Authorize-Only. Instead, it treats all sales as "Final Sale", capturing funds immediately.
If you want to give yourself a couple days to review the order before capturing funds, use Express Checkout and set it to "Authorize" mode instead of "Final Sale".
