Bad links to product sub categories in side box

Newbie here, day three into setting up my first Zen Cart. I've set up the main categories and a couple of sub categories. Only two products in there right now. If I click on one of those products as shown in the main body of the home page (New Products for August), such as the Rubber Ducky Monster, I am taken to that product's page with no problem.

However, if I click on the side bar links, for instance "toys" and then "destructible wood" which is the subcategory Rubber Ducky Monster is under, I'm taken to a blank page. The other subcategories are working fine.

The same thing happens with the Large Dome Top Cage link. It is under Cages/Large.

What am I doing wrong?

Try adding another product to one of those categories. Each of them has only one product now, right? By default, you will have Configuration > Layout Settings > Skip 1-prod categories set to true - try setting that to false.

Oh thank you, I never would have figured that out myself. So much to learn!

That default setting should bypass the product listing page with only one product in the list, and point you straight to the product's info page. It should never go to a blank page, so there is something wrong with your code.

I did change the Skip 1 Prod to false and it fixed the problem. Thanks again!

It bypassed the problem, it didn't fix it. There is still something funky, as you should never see the behavior you had.

What would cause bad links? What would you recommend I do to fix them? Delete & retype the products in?

Re: Bad links to product sub categories in side box

I don't know what would cause the behavior. It's not a "bad link" because the links work fine when you go from one to the next in sequence. Somehow the code that skips directly to the product info page when the category has only one product is malfunctioning.

On aonther note, I see that you have two stylesheets, /includes/templates/rosie/css/stylesheet_rosie.css and /includes/templates/rosie/css/stylesheet_two.css. Some if not all of stylesheet_two duplicates rules in stylesheet_rosie; it is bad practice to have this, as it can cause confusion. If you make a change to a property in stylesheet_rosie which is also mentioned in stylesheet_two, it will be ignored because the last instance controls. Merge the two stylesheets, putting all of the duplicate content together so there is just one rule that controls each element. It will make your life easier down the road.

Re: Bad links to product sub categories in side box

Thanks, good advice. The second stylesheet was one that came with a revised header module and I renamed it and tried to delete duplicates but I need to take a closer look at it. I can't believe how much I've learned about style sheets and Zen Cart this week, which is great because I've recommended ZC to another client and I start on their site on Monday!
