I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

One more thing!!!! i'm sorry whatever you just made me do...did everything!!! but I got the download and after the download button is clicked once... the download is completed...they get it...

in their account they shouldn't be able to download it again.

How do I make them only be able to click that download button once and once only?

They can click it whenever either right after purchase or later... but only ONE time.

Do you know how to set that?

I CANT BELIEVE IT WORKS! for a long time i was thinkin it wouldnt! haha

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

When you set up the attribute and added the download file name to it, you gave it the number of days and clicks. 0 means unlimited. The default is 5 if I recall correctly.

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

Geez my site does operate slow... that's frustrating but ok!

Right so I should put these as follows... I dont want them to have a certain number of days to be able to download. Once they pay they can download it whenever but only once.

So

Downloadable products:
Filename:
Expiry days: (0 = unlimited)
Maximum download count:

Is the Maximum download count going to be set to 1... or default?

And the expiry days should be unlimited right ? or 5/default ?

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

I also have it set to a .doc file now.... ultimately it will be a .pdf file

is that ok? My client's customers cant deal with .zip files

I tested it with .doc and it worked fine.

But is that ok to have a non-zipped file?

If you want them to only ever download it once, set "Maximum download count" to 1. I'm not sure how else to word that to make it more clear.
Same with expiry days. If you want unlimited, use 0 as it says.

NOTE: changing that will only affect new orders, not existing ones already placed.

PDF and DOC and other recognized file types may cause the file to be immediately opened in whatever program is normally used to read those files on that person's computer.
So, if you don't mind your customers having their pdf documents open immediately in acrobat reader, then feel free to leave it as .pdf

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

Hi ok. Yes, i'm sorry you had to say that multiple times about the expiration and all that.

But I set it to this:

Filename: JMSAdpaper.doc Days: 0 Max: 1

and it still allowed the customer to download it many times....

:(

Help please! I know i've asked a ton but I would love just a little more help! Thanks!

Did you place a new order after changing the numbers?

Ya, I just did again....

I even downloaded it... logged off of the name im using for test... then logged back in...clicked my account clicked the download button again and downloaded it again.

That is how it normally works: It should handle the deactivation all automatically.

When you look at the order in your Admin area, it has a section about the downloadable files connected to the order. What does it say about download counts there?

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

Don't forget about this part (it's unrelated to disabling the download link though):> DrByte:

If it works with redirect off, then your server has a problem with creating and/or accessing symlinks, and/or the /pub/ folder doesn't have the proper permissions on it.

If you can't use redirect mode, then turn on streaming and try that, since it's more secure than leaving both of those turned off. But might make for slower downloads if files are large.

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

This is what it says for the most recent one... I just tried to download and it let me do that twice:

Order Download Status
Status Filename Days Count
JMSAdpaper.doc 0 -1

Date Added Customer Notified Status Comments
08/20/2009 14:05:14 Processing

what is -1? shouldnt that mean they shouldnt have gotten the download?

weird.... hmmm

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

So perhaps the permissions are wrong you said for the file?

...cause both streaming and redirect are set to false .... and it works.

Puzzling. It doesn't normally do that. :(

What if you turn streaming on?

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

Hmmm ... try this. Change the Maximum Days to 60 or maybe 90, whatever seems reasonable. Now try a new purchase, and test the download count.

Oh crap if you're puzzled then im certainly screwed! haha.

I did just turn streaming on and same thing happened....

That darn download button wont go away!!!

could it have something to do with the status?

For some reason the order status is always set to processed unless i change it under Orders in the admin.

Re: I'm getting this error after a purchase is made for my download

YOU DID IT!!!!!

It looks like I just have to set an expiration... I put 30 days for the test...

wow... finally! I think you may not be bothered by me anymore (but i wouldnt hold your breathe) hhaha ;-)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! IT'S WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

unbelievable thank you.

Oh crap, real quick... download by streaming is set to TRUE and it still works...

is that alright? what's the difference between both of them false and when just streaming is on?
