Installation Firefox Issue

Hi

I am installing Zen Cart on a Linux based system (Ubuntu), when I select the option to save database settings, Firefox throws a dialog window telling me 'You have chosen to open Index.php' and what would I like Firefox to do.

Has anyone else had this error message and, if so, whats the solution?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Melks:D

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

Zen Cart needs to be installed on a server of some kind to work. It is coded largely in PHP which is a server side language.

You can run Zen on a linux/ubuntu machine (I do!) but you need to either have installed Ubuntu server or add a testing server. The server i use is XAMPP.

There is a recent post about how to get that.

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133663&highlight=MINT+LINUX

Without one of those solutions firefox will always give you that message when you try and open a .php file.

Hi Nick

I can confirm that xampp is installed and all services are running.

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

OK. Sorry to have told you stuff that you obviously already know:smile:

In that case you need to access the file from the local server rather than just trying to open it.

In the link in the other post there is a section, I think, about how to add a folder to the local server.

Maybe I am telling you stuff that you already know again. But what happens if you type http://localhost/ into your browser? Do you get an XAMPP splash screen?

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

Hi

Dont worry about telling me things I may already know - I have been banging my head against this for the best part of a day.

If I go to localhost, I get the xampp banner displayed in the browser so I dont think its index.php files in general.

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

OK that is good news. Just checking that the XAMPP install was playing the game.

The folder that XAMPP is treating as your localserver is at:

opt/lammp/htdocs/

So, click on 'places' in the top menu bar. Select 'computer' and then opt/lampp/htdocs/

That will open a folder that should have in it the following:

  1. an xampp folder
  2. an xampp favicon
  3. an index.php file

Let me know that that is what you have:smile:

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

So, what happens when you put into firefox:

http://localserver/store_folder

(If the store folder has a space in it I would take it out by the way)

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

Hi
Apologies for the late response; if I do as you ask, I get directed to the zen cart installation dialog window - its when I try to save the database settings as part of the installation when I get the message from Firefox regarding the index.php file.

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

No, my apologies for not getting this far earlier. You did say in your first post but we just needed to check that we were good up to that point.

So...

Yes it is strange. Firefox is evidently coping with other files on the local server. So, why does it throw a paddy when it gets to this one?

Puzzling...

I wonder what you entered as the path to your root folder during the installation? It is like Zen Cart is using the direct path to index.php rather than the local server path. It is a while since I did an installation at all so I can't remember the process completely.

I do remember that I had problems with the database user and had to give root privileges to zen for some reason.

If you continue to have problems I'll do a new install on the local server and see if I can repeat what you are getting.

Re: Installation Firefox Issue

Nick

Just to let you know I solved the problem - I was using the latest version of Xampp and the installation notes at the Zen Cart site clearly states that there are issues with PHP 5.3 and Zen Cart (to be sorted by release 1.3.9) - I used an earlier version of Xampp and everything installed ok.

Thanks for your help with this issue.
