Main boxes going too far right.

I turned off the right column global so that there would only be sideboxes on the left side. It looked right at first, but now the boxes in the main section are going too far to the right and I'm not sure why.

If you look, you can see the grey of the breadcrumbs and the New Products box hanging over on the right side. And if you know how to show CSS in Firefox, you will notice that everything in the main column overlaps the right border.

The version is Zen Cart 1.3.8a if that helps anyone.

It is because the image is too wide for the layout. I mean the large image in the center column. It is forcing the containing divs outwards. Edit it in a graphics program is the best way to do it.

But before doing that consider how wide you are going to make the layout eventually.

750px wide, which it is at the moment, is fine. However, it will look a bit measly on a large screen.

There isn't a right or wrong answer to this. There are a few threads on the forum with all kinds of opinions. I think consensus, if there was one, might say that a good width for a fixed width layout might be somewhere around 950 or 1000 px.

That was intentionally non-committal. Once people get started explaining why the width that they use is best it is hard to stop the conversation - and mostly it has already been said in other threads. :smile:

Thanks! That was exactly right...and of course I should have figured that out since it was the last thing I did...distracted Mom syndrome. Thankfully I had extra transparent space on both sides of the image to crop. Works great now!

As for width, I totally hear ya. Older, small monitors versus double monitor setups, versus...the list goes on. I happen to know that a lot of this person's customers are dialup and probably on ancient machines as well, so we'll stick with the narrow.
