Does Zen interface with Paypal's Website Payments Standard?

I see threads about express and pro but nothing about standard...

When you go to Paypal and the Website Payments Standard page it says it supports Zen.....

In your Zen Cart admin area, under Modules->Payment, you'll see the list of built-in payment modules, including "PayPal Website Payments Standard (IPN)".

Many find that Express Checkout is more efficient in getting orders activated in your store (it uses newer PayPal technology which allows your orders to be completed immediately without waiting for PayPal to talk to your server in the background to notify it of new orders as they are queued the way Standard has to).

I just wanted to make sure before I asked a more specific question... I wanted my customer to be able to use credit cards and "Standard" claims to be able to do that where as "express" doesn't.

So, I set Zen up for "Standard" and everything looked fine.

I went to my site (as a customer) and placed an order. I got the SSL lock once I signed in...so at that point I'm in an encrypted mode..

When I get to step 3 of the checkout process I get the following message when I submit the order:

"The seller accepts encrypted website payments only. You cannot pay the seller through un-encrypted buttons. Please contact your seller for more details."

BTY....On the PayPal site I went to the "Website Payments Preferences" page and set the following:

Block Non-encrypted Website Payment:
** On**
Off

I'm sure this is why I get the error but I would like the payment to be encrypted....

Since I know I'm encrypted when I submit the order any ideas as to what is causing me this problem?

PayPal's "encrypted buttons" have nothing to do with SSL.

Zen Cart doesn't support the use of Encrypted Payment Buttons. This is for several reasons. Most storeowners have no clue about how to set up a security certificate on their servers (and many don't even have access to do that). Also, Zen Cart is not a "PayPal store" that simply uses PayPal-provided buttons to add to pages where you display your products. Zen Cart is its own self-managed store, and simply offers PayPal as a means of payment. Thus, it doesn't utilize the PayPal shopping cart. But, if you were running a lower-tech store that used paypal-provided buttons on your individual products, then you might want to use the button-encryption that you're talking about, because it protects not only the email address associated with your PayPal account in the raw HTML that generates the button, but also hides some of the information about your products as you've listed them in the PayPal store. Since Zen Cart uses none of that, the encrypted button support is essentially pointless for the most part. HOWEVER, since Website Payments Standard is based on the older technology that simulates a PayPal store transaction, it must generate its own "button" in order to submit the payment ... which is what happens in the background behind the "submit" button on your Checkout Confirmation screen.
If you have your PayPal account setup to require encrypted payment buttons, then you'll get the error you mentioned because Zen Cart doesn't generate an encrypted button.

You won't have that problem with Express Checkout.

And, with Express Checkout, people can pay with credit cards.

Sounds like it's Express.....

I guess I made a leap of logic on the pay by credit card statement.... When comparing the different payment solutions I noted that Express required a Pay Pal account....I associated that with not accepting credit cards since it was 'forcing' customers to have a PP acct.... My bad...
