Item Not Discounted Once Attributes & Options are Added

I have an item priced at $60.00 and it's discounted 10% so the cart shows the item price as $54.00

I have different sizes and have set up the item to be priced by attributes. The default size should be the $54.00 price and I want the next size up to be priced at $10.00 more.

The drop-down shows the larger item to be +$9.00 ($10.00 less the 10% discount) but upon checkout, it gives me a price of $69.00 instead of $63.00 ($54.00 + $9.00). So it is giving the discount on the additional price but it is not figuring the discount on the base price.

Any advice on this? Seems strange to me!

Also, the small (default) item shows up as the full price when I checkout ($60.00) instead of the discounted price ($54.00) even thought the product display shows the item to be on sale for $54.00. Can't figure out why the discount is not applied if the item has attributes.

I did figure out to leave the product price blank and enter the price for each option in the attribute controller. However, the 10% discount is till not being appiled to anything. Also, the product price shows up as $0.00 which is annoying.
