Pages not displayed correctly

I have installed zencart 1.3.8a to my linux server, and i have not activated ssl yet. After installing i can log into admin but i cannot get it to display correctly and this is the same for the online catalog. im using

PhPmyadmin to access the Database
* Apache/1.3.41
* MySQL client version: 5.0.41
* PHP extension: mysql
i have tryed updating the zencat vesion

and the only thing i can think of it might have somthing to do with my database privileges.

this has no template changes or any mods yet i have just installed it to my server.

can anyone help?

I have found out what the problem is now, My server is not allowing the css script to be read. I have had to deactivate htaccsess file to get my site to display correcly.

now i need to see if i can get them to alter the server protocal.
