Zen Cart front page layout - possible?

Hi there,

I'm using a stock install of 1.3.8 and was wondering if a front page layout similar to http://www.ukofficedirect.co.uk/ was possible.

Essentially, I want all top level categories to display their 2nd level subcategories on the main page and all I can think of is "hack the code....hack the code" which I want to avoid if it's not the "Zen Cart" way.

Anyone come across something similar on their travels and know how to implement?

No-one come across anything like this or wanted something like this for themselves? Hmmmm..... I guess it's back to the drawing board then :(

If it's just the main page you're concerned with, I don't think it would be all that difficult to create that kind of listing, with the links with the red background being main categories, and the links underneath each of those being subcategories. All just regular HTML, styled in the stylesheet.

You can do this with Categories Dressing, by using the ch_categories alternate, creating groups and styling them with float: left;, etc. There are a lot of details to cover, but you wouldn't need to hack anything, and it would be dynamic (automatically allowing for any new categories).

If you wanted the same interior organization as ukofficedirect, you would need to clone the ch_categories files as ch1_categories etc. This would allow you to show top or subcats on one page and not another.
You might also be able to achieve this with clever use of per-page styling.

That layout is very do-able. And the mod mentioned above is perfect for it, install the mod and have a play............
