Multiple items, one shipment (box)

So I searched the forums and couldn't find an answer to my question so here it goes:

Using the FedEx Express and Ground modules and Zen Cart, is there a way to define what items can be shipped together so I don't get shipping rates for each individual item?

For example:

My client manufactures and sells CPR manikins and accessories. - Two manikins can fit into one shipment

  • Up to a total of 10 other accessories can be added to any manikin carton.
  • Up to 100 combined accessories can fit into one box. Weight will determine shipping charge, obviously

Currently if a client buys two products say a manikin and a 50-pack of lung bags, FedEx returns the value for both items, not a combines package.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks in advance and much appreciated!

What are your settings in Admin - Configuration - Shipping/Packaging? You should be able to adjust the weight of the products and the maximum package weight you'll ship.

Re: Multiple items, one shipment (box)

Itis not a weight issue, it is a packaging issue and how things should be grouped (I guess that is the best way to explain it). What is happening is that each item is being separately quotes for shipping when in reality we can package multiple items together in one box. Here is an image from an order placed today:

The shipping is ridiculously high when it should be around $98.00. What should have been grouped together would have been:

  • 4-pack in one shipment
  • Two packages from the 4 single manikins
  • In one of those 2 manikin boxes the 50 pack of lung bags
  • In the other manikin box the pack of Rescue Mask Adapters.

I hope this clarifies some things. Let me know if you need more info!

Re: Multiple items, one shipment (box)

I understand, but so far as I know, there isn't any mod that will calculate shipping based on dimensions for US-based stores. Search the forum for 'dimensions' to see some threads dealing with this.

I was thinking you might be able to kludge something by fiddling with product weights, maximum box weight and tare that might at least help with the way-too-high shipping charges you're getting now.

Re: Multiple items, one shipment (box)

Hmm.

Well I checked around. I think my only option is going to have to be to adjust the weights and everything to get it right. I saw another e-commerce site that was using Zen Cart and they had somehow adjusted the UPS mod to do just what I needed. I wish I could rememebr the site so I could contact their site adminitrator; I'm sure it was custom code.

Thank you for the help and support though. I love the Zen Cart community.
