[Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

I'm not so sure this is a bug since nobody else seems to be reporting it...but it has happened to my client more than once and again yesterday. We have installed ZenCart Version 1.3.8a with Patch 1.

Once in awhile when my client updates the pricing in her products, all the record information disappears from zen_products and zen_products_description, but not the records themselves. Other times the entire record disappears from all associated tables (including zen_products_to_categories). However, the images in all cases remain in the directory (even though the link to them disappears out of zen_products).

I have been able to recover the records from recent backups but not able to determine how the information is going away. There is no 'delete' option during the product preview...just an update button so my client is not accidentally deleting (besides, the images would be gone if she did). It seems like the session variables are not retaining the information...anyone have any ideas how to stop this from happening again?

Thanks,

Lisa

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

OK..here is an update...the items that seem to be completely disappearing, record and all, were missing all the information in the record so my client was deleting them because they were showing inactive. So, not a problem with records being deleted randomly.

Still having the problem of record fields being re-written to the database empty when updating a product. Seems as if the session variables are not retaining the record field information. Could there be a problem in one of the configuration areas dealing with sessions?

Oh, it is very random too. She could edit one product and it updates fine, then the next product updates with all the information gone, then the next product updates fine.

Thanks again,

Lisa

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

It has nothing to do with sessions. The data is retrieved from the database for display on the editing screen.
Then when the "preview" button is clicked, all that data is passed forward to the preview screen as form data, and then redrawn on the next screen using that same form data.
Then when "save" is clicked all that data is stored to the database.

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

Your right...I just tracked it through the programs and that is what it looks like it does. I can't find anything that would cause it to fail based on a button click or field setting.

It seems as though the information is being passed correctly for the preview but is being lost upon the update/save.

What's different between your site and a clean brand new install without addons/customizations? http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Diagnosing_Obscure_Issues

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

OK..went through the comparison and only came up with

// $Id: html_output.php 13598 2009-06-19 14:20:12Z wilt $
/**

  • Security Patch v138 20090619
    /
    /
    *
  • BOF Security Patch v138 20090619
    /
    $form .= '<input type="hidden" name="securityToken" value="' . $_SESSION['securityToken'] . '" />';
    /
    *
  • EOF Security Patch v138 20090619
    */

which was showing in my client's verson of the program and not in the unzipped download of an unmodified zencart. It is a security patch I installed following the instructions for securing the cart.

Am not sure it is an actual code problem since the product updates work most of the time (I can't get it to replicate the problem for me). It seems to be certain server or connection conditions (maybe?) or could it be a php configuration issue? The inconsistency makes it real hard to figure out but was just wondering if anyone had heard of this experience and knew how to fix it.

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

Haven't heard of it before.
Maybe it's something related to the user's browser?

I'm guessing that whatever's causing the problem is emptying the $_POST variables or something when the Update button is clicked on the Preview page.

Not sure what, but could be. She is using the MSN browser that comes with her Qwest DSL account. I'll suggest she download and use Firefox and see if that helps.

Thanks for your quick responses.

IMO definitely a much wiser choice than the what she's using now.

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

Hello - I've read this thread and it seems to be onto the same issue I've just experineced for the first time today.
I've been running Zen Cart for nearly 2 1/2 years, updated to 1.3.8a with patch 2 months ago. Everything has worked perfectly. I'm running XP Pro, I usually use IE for the web. All hardware & software has remained unchanged, as has my host servce. In short no changes anywhere. I made product quantity adjustments as recently as last Friday. Today I tried a quantity change on one product and lost the product from the category. IE says it can't connect when I hit preview. Same with Firefox. And now I can't add a product as well. Same thing hit preview, IE says it can't connect as though the HTTP has disappeard. I experimented with a old deactivated product - same thing again. I can't make any changes to my catalogue or products.

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

Okay -here's what's working:
I can access the website and all pages are available including the catalogue
All site links appear to work
I can "log in" the my own customer account
I can change my account information
Here's what's not working:
I cannot add products to the shopping cart except for one single linked product. It is the only product that is on a second page of a catagory. The very same product on page 1 of it's home catagory will not load into the shopping cart.
As administrator I can access the Zen Cart but I cannot make any changes to products or catagories.
Bottom line - the site is accessable and functions as a website but the Zen Cart shopping cart does not function from a customer side or a administrator side.

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

Same problem for me, as the original poster...
Before the last person hijacked the thread...

I lose the occasional product randomly while editing it too.
The product id stays and image is still applied for product.

Seems to happen mostly at work where security is tighter, but might be a coincidence.

Just posting this to show it's not a solitary case.
(if anyone finds a reason please advise...)

Cheers

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

I've noticed this bug over the last month, but only tonight saw it actually occur in front of my eyes.

If I try to update a product and my internet connection wavers or is lost completely while it's updating, it will delete all of the information from the product EXCEPT the product image and product_id.

This is a killer. I have had a bad connection at the office for the last few weeks, and I have also noticed about 10 empty products in our shop.

Could the devs please take a look at this? Quite nasty!

Finally! This has happened to someone else. Don't get me wrong, it's a pain and I don't wish it on anyone, but I'm glad I'm not alone. This same thing has been happening to me. Same version of Zen Cart, for the past month or so. I go to add or edit a product and then either that product or a different one in it's category gets disabled and deleted. Beyond frustrating. We are at the point of finding a different shopping cart program because dealing with this is like taking one step forward and three steps back. PLEASE ADVISE!

Let's start with the same question I asked others earlier, but never got a response:> DrByte:

I've discovered it is only happening on one PC that I occasionally use while at work (perhaps the connection and security settings that my head office enforces).
At home I can make 500 product changes. Not one problem.
Attempt 2 at this work pc and one will go missing.
Not a coincidence I think...
Could this happen with yours too?

Re: [Done v1.3.9a] Losing Product Information When Updating Prices

I haven't been able to narrow it down to one specific computer, but it's possible. It would be my laptop or from my home connection, then, because this is the computer/connection on which I've definitely noticed it happening. I don't remember seeing it happen at the office PC/connection.

My home connection is utter crap, so I assumed that's why - the connection timing out at just the wrong moment while trying to update a product. But, maybe not? Let me know if you have any ideas what I can look for specifically.
