Installing another zen cart

Hi,

I have a zen cart set up already and I am just in the process of seting another zen cart to check out the new features and to play around with the layout etc.

The original zen cart is obviously set up so it shows when you go to the domain and the second one I am setting up is at /newzen.

I am concerend as it says

"Ready to Install? (This will wipe any existing data. You are NOT in Upgrade mode!!!) "

If I hit the install this wont wipe the data from the other installation will it??? :ohmy:

The best way to add a test site is to create a new database and then manually install Zencart in the subdirectory. It sounds like you're installing through Fantastico or something like it.

I haven't used Fantastico.

I have placed all the files (manually) within the subdirectory and changed permissions to files etc etc. I am now doing the installation set up
/zc_instal

It is here where it says " Ready to Install..."

I am just not sure about how the database side of things works and I don't want to wipe stuff from our current database.

What should I do? Will it be ok? and if not how do I make it ok (set up another database)?? :(

I Have now set up an empty database through my host. However I am nervous about going past the stage (in zc_install) that says:

Ready to Install? (This will wipe any existing data. You are NOT in Upgrade mode!!!)

...as its not clear if this will wipe my original database as I havn't been given the choise of selecting a different databse yet :shocking:

If you are in the folder (sub-directory) where you installed the second Zen Cart, you're ok. From what I remember, that's a normal warning message. I haven't run the install in a while. Just ensure that you're in http://www.domain.com/newzen/zc_install.

I suggest that before you proceed, you go to phpMyAdmin in your webmaster panel and make a backup of the existing database (use the export option). That way if there's any mistake in the install :shocking:, you can restore the data (using the import option) and won't lose anything.

Yeah I've just done that!! Thought that would be best. So I now have a document with a lot of text in..is that the backup? :dontgetit

Now I don't know what to put when it says "Database Host What is the database host?"

How do I know what this is exactly??:dontgetit

Should be 'localhost', assuming your database is on the same server as your files. Most are.
