HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Dear Zen community,

can someone please help me out with the following. I had Zen Cart installed just last week and everything seemed to be working according to all the fine tutorials here.

Except, since 2 days I am encountering difficulties with adding new categories. I had 2 categories included last week as a test and that was working.

I guess the only change I made in the meantime is that I had the Turkish pact uploaded to my site (by support Justhost.com).

As said, now I can't upload any category anymore.

I have installed Zen Cart 1.3.8.a just a couple of days ago, so it should not be a matter of the version I guess.

My website is https://www.casusguvenlik.com

Via Catalog/Categories I come on the page where I can click on new category. It does have a small text behind it saying NOTE: Category has SubCategories. Products cannot be added. Really don't know if this text was already there or not; to be honest I really don't know what this means.

When I click new category and fill in all the relevant data and click SAVE, than I get automatically routed to my homepage (the page with statisticas and the counter history). When I get into Catalog/Categories again to check if the category has been created, nothing is shown.

HELP me out please. I really don't know what is wrong.

Please bare in mind, I am not technical, so any dummy explanation would be so much appreciated !!!!

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

You can't have both products and subcategories in a category. If you've already added subcategories to a category, you can't add products.

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

But I don't think I have created sub-categories. Where can I check this? I have only experimented with some products, but not with sub-categories. Please any assistance would be welcome.

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

In addition to this, I can't remove the 2 existing categories by clicking on the delete button. It is really not doing anything. Could this have anything to do with the language pack I am using?

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Have you installed the security patch? Sounds like it but you did not install all files properly. Please reinstall the security patch and take care that you put all the files in the correct folders!!

Categories have a 'folder' icon, products have a 'note'(sheet of paper) icon

You cannot have both together in a category.

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Ok, I went into these security patches screen that you adviced me.... here is an immediate problem already.

In the description it states I have to unzip and upload the patch to /includes/extra_configures/

The issue is that I DONT have an "extra_configures" folder in my includes folder. Do I need to create this manually and after that upload the unzipped file in here?

Many thanks in advance.

If you really don't have that folder, go ahead and create it.

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Hi, just to get back on my previous post, I found out I DO have this folder, but that is in ADMIN/includes/extra_configures

So I uploaded the file here rather than creating the folder in the includes folder. Did I do this correct?

Also, I uploaded all the files as shown in the security patches within my admin folders, but I am STILL having the same problem.

I am still not able to add a category!!! I am really about to lose all hope.

HELP !!! WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS ?

:cry::cry::cry:

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

If the patch instructions say "/includes/" they mean the base folder; if they say
"/admin/includes/" they mean the /includes/ in your admin folder.

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Ok, I just did everything in the correct folders now... still not working...

The symptom is that whenever I try to add a category, I can fill in the whole menu, but when I click 'save' it automatically and very quickly sets me back to the homepage (with the statistics screen).

Could this have something to do with me not having editing rights or so? I really understand a thing from what's going on here.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome. I could even share my logins in order to have it checked by one of you experts. Maybe it's a very easy fix that I am just not seeing....

VERY FRUSTRATING...

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Maybe one more thing... my language pack is for 1.3.8 whereas my Zen Cart version is 1.3.8.a .... maybe that causes the issues?

Go to the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... and in the bottom input box type in:
html_output.php

Select from the dropdown Catalog/Admin and click SEARCH ...

What are the ID that show on the files?

This is an old version of the file which should have been replaced when you did the security patch with a version modified 6/19/2009 3:23 pm or thereabouts. The patch version doesn't appear to be anywhere in your site, so you should try reinstalling it.

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Have to agree with gjh42 ... that is the wrong html_output.php file, if you did the security updates ...

I would recheck the Security Patches that you have applied to your server and see if that doesn't fix the problem when you have done them correctly ...

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

I had the same problem, when you try to add a new category and after filling out the category name and clicking the Save button and it would take you to the admin/index.php page instead of back to the Category view of the products.

Thank you gjh42, you suggestions worked perfect and my site is functioning normal again.

Ok, I am still not there.... I did the full security patch all over again and still without result. i especially checked this security patch, but it remains under the same date, being 2006-03-01

This is so frustrating... what am I doing wrong??? It takes 3 weeks already and I have done everything within my power to do this.....

Just to be sure, I did the security patches mentioned here:

http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131115

And for some reason this is apparently not working!!!

Anybody any more suggestions? I am close to throwing the laptop out of the window, HELP !!!

Re: HELP - Can't create category - something wrong

Just thinking out loud... I had my turkish language pack installed by justhost support team. So basically I didn't do it myself. The reason for this is that when I did it, I got to see the message "Missing language files". So I really don't know what these guys at justhost did to have this functioning, but when I look at a thread on missing language files, I see a comment stating:

QUOTE
Yes. The structure for english is as follows. Every language uses the same pattern:

/includes/languages/english.php
/includes/languages/english/.php
/admin/includes/languages/english.php
/admin/includes/languages/english/
.php
UNQUOTE

So I just went into my FTP to check if this was true for the data in the server.... **I found out that it doesn't match. Could this be the reason for me not being able to add any new categories from my Zen Cart Admin **(it makes no difference whether I do this in english or turkish)?

What I find strange when I compare this to my folders is:

I don't see /includes/languages/english.php folder... instead I see /includes/languages/turkish and the turkish php file is located under /includes/languages/turkish.php

Something else, not matching with what is stated above is
/admin/includes/languages/english/turkish.php. There is no such a file under the english folder.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. I suspect it may have something to do with this, because I was able to add categories prior to having this Turkish language pack installed.

Cheers.
