Gift certificate only good for one prod in one cat

How do I do this:

Create a gift certificate that can only be used in a certain category.

All products in that category are theoretically worth about the same amount, that is beside the point, but I want that gift certificate to only be able to redeem, in whole, any one of the products in that category.

And then I want that gift certificate to have no value after that.

I dont want the customer to be able to use the gift certificate for any other categories or products in my store.

Sound crazy?

Gift Certificates are "Cash" ...

Someone has spent "Cash" to obtain a Gift Certificate ... and "Cash" never expires ... it is always "Cash" and does not change value and is only gone when the "Cash" is "spent" by the customer or "transferred" to another customer ...

Perhaps the Discount Coupons would work better for you?

These can have restrictions on what Categories and/or Products are allowed to be used with the Discount Coupon and limitations on the number of uses on a Discount Coupon on either the number of times a Customer may use it or the number of times that a Discount Coupon can be used by anyone ...

Build the Discount Coupon ... then, you will see a RESTRICTIONS button on the right panel appear ... click that and set the restrictions such as:
TOP deny
My Category allow

Now only Products in the category called My Category will be allowed to be used on this Discount Coupon ...

NOTE: this is based on master_categories_id of Products ...
