Product Quantity - can I add it to product listing?

So I fixed the auto backorder. Now, when my products list from the category link, first of all, they do NOT show how much is on hand quantity. That only shows in checkout. I'd like that to be on that page as well.

Also, there is an "add to cart" box on that page as well. You can enter any integer in it. I wish you could put something in the php or something that would allow any integer <= on hand quantity. Its probably wishful thinking though.

Either way how is the customer supposed to know how much is possible to order off of this page? I'm not allowing orders of more than on hand. They would need to see the on hand quantity on that page for each item or else they would be guessing 10 items at a time.

I tried the tutorial/FAQ for a long time, also Google. Sorry if this is an easy fix, it is hard to find an answer to. Thanks a bunch!

I can't seem to figure out how to put the on hand quantity on the page where the product displays from the category. In the product editor I clicked show products quantity box. The on hand quantity shows in the checkout, but not when all of the products are displayed from the category.

Go to Admin/Catalog/Product Types/(choose your product type..usually Product - General) and edit layout. Set Show Quantity in Stock to True.

Start with

admin>>configuration>>product listing>>Display Product Quantity

PHP works server side so that it can't check the input of the box until the page is submitted.

That is the correct answer.

But if you're using a customized template that's broken the built-in functionality, then you'll have to fix your template if you want the normal behavior to occur.

I am interested in adding a 'Products Capacity' under the initial listings in the Product Description ( for example: Model, Shipping Weight, & Quantity...and then Products Capacity: 30 Liters...for example)
before the Main Product Description.....

Why?

Because there is no place in the DB to store it, no code in the admin to enter it, no frontend code to display it
