Cannot get categories to show on Main Page???

Issue 1:

I have done some CSS mods, but no code changes to the php files other than text here and there and whatever the addons have changed. I have an image setup for my categories and have turned on Categories - Always show on main page, but it isn't working. I am not sure how to fix it either as I am not a web developer. I did go into the Define Pages Editor and did some HTML code in the main page..could this be why? Also I have a couple of main categories and then sub categories. Can I just show the subcategories on the main page?

Issue 2:
How do I turn off the Category Icon on the product listing and product info pages? I can't seem to find the setting for it.

I would not mess with any PHP code without looking at the CSS_read_me.txt file in the css folder of your site AND doing a little more research on all the admin switches that would need to be flipped.

We can't see the php code that's on your server, but an initial look at the results on your site suggests to me that the normal content on the index categories page has been replaced by a table with your content in. Can you tell us more about how that table was inserted, as it may give us a clue as what's causing your problem.

For the product_info page the category image is on by default. So two things to check ...

Firstly that this setting is not zero

Admin > Configuration > Product Info > Previous Next - Navigation Includes Category Position

and then that when you look at a particular category page in the Admin, do you see your image towards the bottom. If not, your Zen Cart doesn't know its there and you would need to re-upload or edit the images filepath through this screen.

Product Listings are more complex as most don't relate to a specific category and will have products from multiple categories. Are you refering the category index pages?

Oh, and ignore prettywish's suggestion. It's not relevant to your issues.

Kuroi thanks for the help. Still not quite sure why nothing seems to be working. To answer your question...

1. The table was created within the define pages editor. I selected the main page and just inserted some html code to create a table, tr, and td. Nothing major there.

2. As for the category image, please see the attached jpg which shows what I am referring to. Also here is the code from firebug...perhaps that will help. I want to get rid of <div id="categoryImgListing" class="categoryImg"> in the productlistingheading. Does that make sense?

I also tried the settings that you referred to and it didn't seem to make any changes. Is there a chance that somehow one of the core php files got overwritten and that is why none of these settings seem to work?

I did miss one add-on that is installed on my site, BetterCategories. Would this cause the categories not to show up on the main page?

Ok perhaps I am misunderstanding what the "Always show categories on Main page" means. I just installed zen fresh with no add-ons or anything, created some categories and provided images for those categories and then enabled this setting. There are NO categories showing on the main page. My assumption was that this setting would show the category icons and the name of the category in some sort of grid pattern. Am I mistaken on this?

GOT IT! In order to get this to work, you must also have the following set to 1:

Admin -> Configuration -> Product Listing -> Show SubCategories on Main Page while navigating

I hate to ask this as I know it's been asked a hundred times and I've found most of those posts but I still can't get something right. I haven't worked with ZenCart in quite awhile and I know I've corrected this before.

I can't get the top categories to show on the main page on a site I'm working on. I've got the Always show categories on Main page set to 1, seems like there was a couple of other things I needed to do to fix this last time but I can't remember for sure, that's what old age does to you I guess.

Anyway, if anyone knows what else I can do to get these to show up if the normal process doesn't work I'd sure appreciate some help.

i had this problem, but with your help the categories are showing on the main page. However i want to change how they are arranged - instead of vertical to be horizontal like the rest of the icons on the main page. i would like to make the images on the centre of the main page bigger, but cannot see where i can do this. Just did it and want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU. I have been hunting for the solution all weekend and you have now sorted it for me. I now need to know how i can make some of the images bigger and cannoit see in the admin/category/images how to do it - Any suggestions ?
