column layout grid, allow user to pick number of items displayed

I am using the column layout grid and it works great, but I would like to give my users the ability to choose the number of items displayed or to display all items in the grid.

Is this possible? Probable?

Set number of products displayed per page

This is an alpha version and I don't know if it will work with Column Grid, but it's a place to start looking. There have been forum threads on the subject.
