Quantity on Hand not updating after sale

I am using the latest version. Everything else is working. All products are downloadables. Cart is perfect. Payment goes smoothly. Emails are sent. Customer gets download and opportunity to try again for 3 days or 3 downloads. Just one problem - I started with a quantity of 1000 units and after 15 complete sales (all marked as delivered) I still have 1000 units in stock. What am I overlooking?

Downloads do not track stock ... :eek:

IF you only have a Download site and have NO Physical Products ... there is a work around that should not break things and that is to setup your Downloads the WRONG way ...

By setting the Download Products up the WRONG way and marking them as Virtual Products YES ... which is the WRONG way to setup a Download Product ... then the stock will track ...

The better solution is to customize the code to track the stock for Downloads ...

And, consider as this is a customization, do you want the Download Stock tracked when the Product is ordered? Or, when the Download is downloaded?

So, if I go through all 2800 + products and change product is virtual to yes, it will start counting down the quantity on hand?

If I choose to have it count only after the download would it count twice if the customer had to download it a second time to get a good copy?

I like the second idea much better

Better than 90% of past customers have got it the first time and it's not really that big a deal if I have to correct after multiple attempts. I look at each order at night anyway in case I see that they have none left. It may mean they didn't get a good copy and used all 3 download tries. I then send them an email to make certain.

I do have 5 products in a different category that must be shipped but i could do them a different way if needed...

If you need to ship products, then using the Virtual Product on a Download will break the calculations for shipping ...

It might be better to have it count with each actual download ...

Shipping calculations to what aspect? The price listed includes shipping. I only accept Paypal as form of payment.

On the 5 Products, if 1 of them is in the cart, when you go to checkout do you see the checkout_shipping page?

If so, what shipping module(s) are showing?

The page is main_page=checkout_shipping. If you are asking what I think you are there is a radio button for free shipping. nothing else.

So all of your shipping is free and your only shipping module is Free Shipping ...

How are you marking your Products as Free Shipping? With Always Free Shipping or 0 weight?

Will you ever be doing shipping that involves shipping charges or will that always be part of the Product Price?

The main reason for all the questions is that I am about to suggest that you incorrectly configure your Products so that you can have stock tracking on your Downloads ...

And, I am trying to determine if you are trying to track quantity 1 when the Download is "sold" or multiple quantity based on each Download of a file of a Download Product ...

This also leads to do your Download Products contain 1 filename each or multiple filenames ... as this could affect the tracking if you what to track the individual download of each file ...

I always add enough to the cost to cover shipping. "Always free shipping" is set. Originally, I set weight to 0 for everything as well. There is only 1 file per item

If you want to track stock on everything based on qty purchased, then set the Downloads as Virtual and they will track stock based on sales on an order ...

NOTE: This is NOT the right way to setup Downloads if you have a shop that needs to have shipping calculated ...

Is there a global method of doing this or am I about to edit 2800 products?

Backup your database, this command will change ALL products to be set to Virtual ...

UPDATE products SET products_virtual = 1;

NOTE: To NOT change the Products that are already marked as Always Free Shipping use:

UPDATE products SET products_virtual = 1 WHERE   	product_is_always_free_shipping = 0;

Be sure to backup your database before trying this and then try creating some orders and testing the checkout to see if things are tracking on the stock ...
