Additional Customer Fields

I want to add an additional field to the customer create account, to include Trade References as a required field, is it possible to do this and what is the best way to create additional fields ? Thanks

I've had a look in the Zen Cart Manual but I couldn't find anything to indicate that we can add fields or change them.
Perhaps you could add this idea to the Zen Cart Wishlist for future versions?
