How do you keep track of what modules you've installed?

I am curious as to how others are keeping track of what modules they have installed and which files and/or tables have been modified for each module.

It would be nice if Zen Cart could track which ones have been installed, similar to Plug-Ins for Wordpress, but since it doesn't.....

At the very least is there a module for just keeping general notes in the admin (not tied to a customer or product) where I can enter my own information?

A little technique I learned from a Zen Master Dbltoe

1. Save the read me file in the root directory and rename it to the module name
2. Of course it is easy to remember the override files, but
3. If you hack a core file I use a unique name EX: /MSC09/ at the end of the line I changed the .php coding

I will save a zipped copy of any mod added in a folder (above public_html) called Mods_Installed.

By doing this you will have the full fileset and the exact version that was installed in case you need to restore a file.

In addition, any file that is changed by a mod is renamed to .orig instead of .php so if I need to remove a mod, the ORIGINAL file is still on the server.

I have a directory 'tree' for each site (named for the custom template) containing all folders which contain modified files with the files inside them. Those would include the files/folders the mods added or changed. I also place the mod zip file in a folder named 'mods' added to the bottom of the tree.
