Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

Hello,

I'm in a very serious time crunch and I'd greatly appreciate anyone who can help. I've never used Zen Cart before and I'm using the latest version:

I have a site developed with clean, standard xHTML/CSS and it's ready to go for the shopping cart. I am only trying to sell a book product. There's absolutely nothing fancy about the process at all -- there's no need for featured products or anything at all.

They, basically, hit a Buy button and it takes them to the check out process with the quantity and such.

Does anyone have any information regarding the quickest and easiest way to go about this?

I'm intermediate with PHP and on a professional level with HTML/CSS, so don't be shy in that regard. I have to have this available in the next 12 hours, so time is of the essence on this one, unfortunately.

Thanks so much,
-Nick

Zen Cart is not designed to be a backend for your product page - Under your circumstances something like a PayPal "buy now" button would be an option.

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

Yikes. Yes, PayPal would be an option, but she is working with Authorize.net and another company for lower rates, so it boils down to that; otherwise, I would've used PayPal already ;)

If Zen Cart isn't designed to be a back end, is there detailed information somewhere I can find for modifying an existing them and using the already built structure to match the look and feel of what's already designed?

And how would I proceed about setting up the sole product purchase?

Thanks,
-Nick

Have you looked at e-junkie? They are what you are looking for and you can use Authorize.net.

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

Thanks for the link, but e-Junkie would be a paid option and we're looking for something more open-source.

Is there really no way for me to use an existing HTML template and simply house the Zen Cart content in a main-content div/wrapper?

No, not really. You run into session problems switching back and forth between Zencart and non-Zencart pages.

If you can post a link to the site (or at least a screenshot), we could probably give you an idea how difficult it would be to recreate the design in Zencart.

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

Here's a temp link to the PayPal version of their site: http://www.pickanothercheckoutlane.com/

Basically, the visitor needs to be able to click the buy link, enter a quantity and be done with it. I don't want the user to be hindered by creating an account, so I'm trying to implement the easy checkout module I've found on here as well.

I'm about novice-intermediate with PHP, so if there are clear sections to edit in the header / footer files it's something I can do, I'm just having a tough time.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

I've actually made decent progress hacking pieces together. It's not exactly built for extendability as most of the links I've put into my navs are hardcoded to the ID's and things of that sort but it's getting there...

https://www.pickanothercheckoutlanehoney.com

My only problem right now is: upon going to the .com / homepage, it shows the product info first and all of that. Ideally, I want textual content and the Buy link to go to what is now the homepage. I setup an EZ-page for the home page content, but can't figure out how to modify it to be the default page.

If I can figure this out, I'll be well on my way to finishing this nightmare of a project

Thanks!

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

If I understand what you're trying to do, the easier way would be to put your main page content, with a button (link) to the product info page, in includes/languages/english/html_includes/classic/define_main_page.php.

Nice job with the design.

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

Thanks.

I'm actually trying to show what's in define_main_page.php and point to the product info page. Currently, if you look at the URL, it goes directly to the product info page. Any idea how I can make the switch between the two? I think then I'll be well on my way !

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

If you have Admin - Configuration - Layout Settings - Categories - Always Show on Main Page set to 1, and **Admin - Configuration - Layout Settings - Skip 1-prod Categories **set to True, you would probably get the behavior you're experiencing.

Re: Setting up single product shop - VERY urgent

There is a module in the Software Add Ons section called "Easy Embed". It was designed to help incorporate Zen Cart into an existing site. Might be worth a look at in this case as it would solve all kinds of problems for you.
