Item is in products and products_description tables but cannot access

I have an item that is in products and products_description tables but I cannot access it from the master category (in the admin)..... could you speculate on what may be causing it to act this way? ... some table that must be populated that may not be?

Check the products table and make sure you have the right categories_id in the master_categories_id field and that you have the right products_type set as well ...

Do you see it in the listing? If so, is the issue that it cannot display if you try to edit it? If so, what do you see in the URL for the in this section of it:
/product.php?page=1&product_type=1&cPath=3_13&pID=8&action=new_product

Also, if you're manually injecting products into the database, you really need to study the full architecture so that you put things in all the right places. For example, if you don't put a corresponding record in the products_to_categories table, then the product won't show up in any categories, regardless what master_categories_id you have set in the product table.
