Can I mix BOTH Text and check box attributes for a product?

I am trying to put custom imprinted Coffee cups and other custom items on my site.

I'll try to explain what I want to do as an example as someone out there may have a better way to do it.

I have several "stock" images people can select to put on one side of a mug or T-shirt.

I want to give them the option of adding text to the mug or shirt on the other side as an option.

Independantly these are fairly easy as I just created an attribute using checked boxes for all the images and if someone selects two images they total into the price.

The problem comes with trying to give customers the option of selecting an image for one side and adding custom printed test to the other.

For example, if a customer a mug with one of the color images I offer on one side AND their name on the other I want them to be able to select the mug, check the image they want and then check and type in a text box the custom name or saying they want. The cart then adds the pricesprice to the basic mug for a total.

Can that be done?

Yes, you can mix attribute types and have them added to the total.

Unless I am misunderstanding something from your example, you just need a priced TEXT attribute. This is what I am doing on some products.

Go into the Product Name Manager and add a new Product Option with a Option Value of TEXT.

Now, go into the Attributes Controller, find your product, add the new Option Name you created, choose the Option Value of TEXT and then add a value for the Price (found under Prices and Weights).

Now, if the customer types in the "Mug Custom Text" box, it will add that price to their total.

You can also set the text attribute to be priced by word or by letter. So, you could give them a certain amount of free words or letters and then charge a certain amount for each additional word or letter when they go over the set free amount.

Re: Can I mix BOTH Text and check box attributes for a product?

That gets me 50% there. Customers also need to option to be able to select what image they want printed on the opposite side of the cup so they get a picture on one side and text on the other. What you sent works great to get me the text part, but how do I also let them have the ability to select an image?

Ideally their coices would be a list of check boxes with 1-3 being pictures to select and the 4th being text. They could then check the picture they want and by checking the text box add text as well.

That's what I'm trying to do, but the text and the image features seem to be different attributes.

Re: Can I mix BOTH Text and check box attributes for a product?

Thanks for the help. I fugured out how to get text and check boxes ontot he attributes for the product.

Next challenge: How do I put images with the attributes so, for example, when people want to select a stock image for the mug it shows what it looks like next to that attribute check box?

In the Attribute Controller, edit your text attribute and at the bottom of the editing page you add your image under "Attributes Image Swatch".

Also, In the Option Name Manager, if you edit the Option you want attribute images on, you can set the number of images per row.

Re: Can I mix BOTH Text and check box attributes for a product?

Thanks! that did it!

Now my next challenge is to find a way to set specific shipping options for specific products. For example, Some items I have I can only ship UPS. Others can go UPS or USPS but right now the shipping model applies UPS and USPS to ALL items when they are installed.

Any suggestions for that quandry?

I won't be able to assist with that shipping question - a bit more complicated than what I currently do with my cart. :dontgetit

I would suggest you start a new thread for this shipping question though as I am pretty sure it won't get answered in this attribute related thread.
