How to add featured products to ez-pages?

Does anyone have a solution for adding 'Featured Products' and categories to ez-pages in the center box/column? I would like to mimic the functionality on the home/index page without hacking the php code if possible.

Why don't you just use the default featured display?

If you want the featured products centerbox to show below ez-page content, you could probably copy/adapt the code that does it on listing pages into the ez-page handler tpl_ file.
