Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

I was trying to change the front page and got a bit giddy and went to the HTML and deleted it Instead of clicking on the Text drop down on Define Pages Editor that then puts you on the change text box, what im trying to do is get rid of the congratulations you have downloaded Zen part, and i cant find the text to change and was wondering is this because ive deleted the HTML !! i can ad text under it but cant get the congrats off, its only the classic so were going to change it is that still going to be a problem or will the next one give me the HTML back ive deleted or am i way off the mark here with the way im thinking !! lol

Where did you "go to the HTML and delete it"? There are no HTML files; there are PHP files which include HTML, but define_main_page.php is the one that gives the homepage center content. That appears to be intact on your site, with your custom content.

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

I went to Define Pages Editor went to main page clicked on Text editor and used the Plain text on the drop down, it shown me some html and wording i deleted it and put my wording in between the Html, i then realised that ive edited the wrong part and then clicked the Html Text to get the edit box, i put in some test text to see what would happen and got the text on the main page but still cant find how to get the congrats off !! hence i still cant find what you sent, is it on the Define Pages Editor , ive only worked on the Presta shop and Zen is new to me and a little different, sorry if im missing the point but ive searched everywhere and just cant see what you have sent over.

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

Hi Arran

In the Classic template (straight out of the box) as you know displays "congratulations ..." on the home page. This is made up the html (text and image) that you are seeing when you go to the Define Page Editor for main_page.

Anything that is within the Define Page Editor box for a define page is NOT core code, ie don't add your text *under *the HTML in the editor box. Delete everything in the box and ***then ***add your text.

Sometimes it's good to click on the HTML Source button to make sure there are no <P> or <BR> tags lingering that end up messing up your spacing.

Hope this helps,
Kerrin

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

So what your saying is that i cant change certain parts of the Classic but will be able to do when we download a new Template !! please say yes lol,

thats what i did i went the opposite way and deleted parts of the Html and put my Text into the middle, and not the other way were i should have just gone to the editor box,

So dos this also apply to Sales message gos here, ie that i cant change it till i download the next Template, as i cant find that as well lol.

If its just that i need to download another Template to get to be able to change that then im happy and i can then concentrate doing that instead of wasting time looking for things that isn't there, that may also make sense why i cant change other things on the Template lol.

So is the Template just a play Template !! and you cant do a lot to it, ?

The "Congratulations ..." message (the area marked in green) is modified by updating the language file called index.php. This is found at includes/languages/english/index.php. Modify the file as shown in the tutorial (https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=129) and save in the override folder for the classic template (includes/languages/english/classic/index.php).

The "Have you got yours yet? ..." message (the area marked in red) is modified using the Define Pages Editor in Admin > Tools > Define Pages Editor > define_main_page.php.

Remove everything in the editor box, as marked in red here.

Excellent tutorial post, Kerrin! Anyone who can't get that shouldn't be trying to run a website.

The Classic template is a fully customizable template and you can do anything to it, but you should first copy its folders and files to "/custom/" folders (choose your name) so that you have your own template safe from upgrades, and leave the /classic/ files alone so you can switch to it for debugging your own template.

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

Thanks for your reply, but don't bother again as i needed help not Sarcasm and running down, made a mistake that was very quickly jumped on by you in your opening comment, I take it you never made daft mistakes when you first started,

It was a daft over-site by miscommunication by me and my Business partner who downloaded it, i thought they had downloaded the full version then as i was having problems getting in i then found out they had downloaded the Box version and it had no Core code, but anyway with the HELP of GENUINE people who want to help and that haven't forgot were they have come from its now changed over to the proper Template, with the Core Code

If i can give you a bit of advice try to remember that people need encouragement and not putting off learning, and as you know the only way to learn is by making mistakes no matter how Big or Small.

Hope all that you do gos perfect as im sure it will as you seem to be an expert, but if you want any help on sarcastic matters then drop me a mail as im very good at that too.

Have fun in your Castle of knowledge and i would love to see your websites that you have done, ill show you mine when its finished for your truley honest opinion,

Arran

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

I don't believe I "jumped on you" in my first comment; I was addressing the common misconception that you seemed to share that there are flat HTML files to edit, other than define_main_page.php.
I have never heard of a "Box" version which doesn't have core code, and would like to know where your partner found such a thing and what it is. And trust me, I've made plenty of daft mistakes. In case you misunderstood, my remark to Kerrin was generic, not implying that you couldn't understand her post. But read carefully through your first posts; the way you stated your actions was hard to interpret for someone who had not been looking over your shoulder.

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

I agree with Arran. I don't think people should comment with sarcasm and the like when other new zenners are reading posts trying to to make sense of it all. your sarcasm makes people afraid to post there question for help. If everyone had your knowledge of zen cart and website building they wouldn't need to read these posts at all.

Re: Ive deleted the HTML for frount page !! oops

Actually, that one sentence wasn't sarcasm, it was honest opinion. The post described the process so thoroughly, clearly and simply that anyone who speaks English reasonably well should be able to follow it correctly. Someone who couldn't understand that tutorial would probably not be able to understand many other instructions necessary to website creation.
Nevertheless, it would have been better to have not said it so as not to annoy people who feel frustrated at being new to the scene. I didn't mean to offend anyone by it.
