How to add content to order confirmation email?

Hi, I need to add some additional content to the order confirmation email sent to customer after successful checkout.

I tried adding my new content to
email_template_checkout.html

You can see the changed template here:
http://buck-store.de/email/email_template_checkout.html

But the email remains unchanged.

Where do I have to put the changes?

Hi Ralf, do you have the overrides system in place?

You may have to make the change in your custom template folder?

There are no "template overrides" for emails.
There are only language-specific overrides, as discussed near the bottom of this page here: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Email_Problems#HTML-formatted_Email_in_non-English_Languages

I was wondering about the override too. Good to know that now.

Hm, still not working.

Suggested solution was:

HTML-formatted Email in non-English Languages

The english HTML emails are built from the files in the /email folder. If you have other languages, you'll need to create your own HTML email template files and put them into subfolders named according to the 2-letter language code.

ie:

* /email/de/
* /email/es/
* /email/fr/

Now I have it here:
http://buck-store.de/email/de/email_template_checkout.html

But after the purchase I still do not get this mail version.

Is it possible that I'm using the wrong file?** Unfortunately there's no indication in the files when which file is used.

The email I want to change is the one sent to the customer after the purchase.

I'm guessing that the part you're not telling us is that the text you're looking for is missing in the text-only emails, and that you're not referring to HTML emails, despite only editing the HTML email templates.

In v1.3.x, those files in the /email/ folder are ONLY for HTML-formatted emails.
If you want to change TEXT-Only emails, you'll need to manually edit the many different language defines in the appropriate checkout language file.

In the (not yet released, no date set yet) v2.0, the text and html emails will be handled from the /email/ folder, making it a lot easier to edit your email content.

Thanks for the info, I will try to figure that out, but I'm afraid it might be over my head.

I did not even know there are 2 versions of the emails available.
How would the system know whether to send text or html version?

Could I simply tell zencart to send the html instead of text version?

If your customer has selected Text mode, then Zen Cart will send in text mode.
If you have HTML enabled, and your customer has opted for HTML format, then they'll receive it in HTML format.

For now I did set default to html and removed the option to change that from the registration and profile templates.

Not a nice solution, but I have to make sure the email does contain the legal stuff in all cases.

P.S. Thanks for all the help, this is truly one of the most responsive forums I know. So far all my problems have been solved with the help of forum members.
