Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

In the product listings, anyone have any ideas on how to align all of the item names to the left in the product listings? They are all currently centered and it looks really tacky as far as clean presentation goes. This one has baffled me to this point.

The text alignment is controlle din the stylesheet.

Add

 text-align:left;

to the style of the listing that you want to have left aligned.

I tried your code in about 15 different places in the stylesheet and it did not work. Would it keep it from working because you don't have a space between the : and 'left'?

I cannot get it to work without knowing where exactly in the stylesheet to put that code. Anyone else have any ideas on how to center the item name column in the products listing????

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

My stylesheet is whatever was in the files when I installed it. It says "template_default" instead of whatever "your_template" could be. I haven't changed anything in it until now.

Do you have any idea what section it might go into in the code?? I tried the "body" section thinking that would control the whole thing, but it didn't work there or anywhere else I tried it. I also tried the navcolumnone and navcolumntwo sections and no luck. Not sure what to do on this one.

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

As geel said, we need to see your site to be sure of giving correct advice.
It is likely that there is nothing currently in your stylesheet to add a text-align: property to for your purpose.
.productListing-data {text-align: left;}
would probably work, though it would affect all columns of the listing.

Firefox and its Web Developer extension will let you find these things for yourself.

You are editing the /template_default/ files?
STOP right now and read about template creation in the tutorials. There is lots of important information there, and we can answer any questions you have after reading it.

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

It is funny that you stopped me from editting that template_default file. Right as you would have been typing that, I realized that the classic folder actually had the correct stylesheet.css I needed. All this time I have been changing the wrong file. I got my text size where I wanted it now, but I still can't get the text in the item name column to align to the left. I see you mentioned that you need to see the script. Do you want me to copy all of it and put it on here? Maybe send it in an email? Let me know.

What we need is to see your site live. Post a link, and we can get all the information we need off it.

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

After struggling with the same problem, I added the following to the bottom of stylesheet.css:

.listingDescription {
text-align: left;
}
.itemTitle {
text-align: left;
}
.productListing-heading {
text-align: left;
}

This works for me, but as it's my first attempt at changing a .css file, I can't guarantee it's the "correct" way to go about it..!

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

Well Takoda, It finally lined everything up on the left like I wanted. Great tip....except.....my prices disappeared!!! AAHHH!!

How did you fix that???

And since you have had similar problems, any ideas on how to get the price to sit next to the add to cart box instead of on top of it????

You didn't do it. Apparently, I made a change and forgot to undo it. Now I have to figure out how to get my prices back.

You have two threads going at once on similar subjects, plus a couple of slightly older ones. This will cause endless confusion for people trying to help or just follow the progress. Pick one and concentrate your posts there.
Help with "Add to cart box", a font change and "New Produts Module"...

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

Well, you were right, gjh42. I messed something up and now my prices are gone from the live site. I must have done it last night before going to bed. I was tired and kept focusing on the code so much that I am sure I left something in that I need to take out. Not sure what though. Any ideas what controls the price column? It could be in the stylesheet.css, the stlyesheet_css_buttons.css or in the admin configurations. Those are the only three I was messing with late last night. I didn't realize it until this morning. Any help will get me back to normal AND teach me a lesson about editting on my own script first, then copy it to the site.

I am not gonna do anything else to the code until I get my prices back. Then I am gonna follow instructions from gjh42 about Notepad++.

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

Were you trying to edit product_listing.php as I described in your other thread? That is the only thing that could make the price disappear while leaving the add box.

Re: Help with making products align left instead of centered in the listings...

I am gonna start a new thread when I return from the store. I am being told that I have to go shopping now. It will be one master thread with BenhamCollectibles in the title line and it will be in the General Questions Forum. It will be a few hours before I return. I will post this in all of my currently open and confusing threads now so everyone knows. Anyone that makes a new reply to any of my many threads, if you can make it in the General Questions Thread, that will help out alot.
