Page wont load after sign up. and nore will others, Help PLEASE :)

 Please advise and or help.

I have a site i made today, not a web person at all. I know photoshop well though.

Site is http://wrappedinpink.com When some one signs up and or logs in it will not take them any where just loads the top half of the banner
The e-mail gets sent to the user signing up but pages wont load

the theme i used is a pink one, I only changed the background color to white using the themes css. And the main index page i changed to the following:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

So all i did was take a pyhotoshop theme and in the middle pasted the default zencart index in there, Also i have tried deleting it and starting over many times this is the 5th time i tried, I also changed themes but it has no effect.

ON A SIDE NOTE.

I also do not know how to make the menu stay in the middle of the page like i want it shows up at the top and it irritates me so.

Any help fixing my site is DEEPLY appreciated.

<snip>
And the main index page i changed to the following:

The code you posted has two </html> tags ... This is reflected in the page of your store as well. This will confuse the web browser(s) because they don't know what to do with the code that follows the first </html>

There are possibly other issues/errors at play as well, but this was the first that caught my attention.

Using a** text editor**, you could try just deleting the superfluous/erroneous html tags and seeing if that solves the problem (or reveals other problems), but as you self admit that you don't know what you are doing, I think your best option would be to simply replace the edited file with an original zencart copy and start again.

Also, be VERY CAREFUL when editing .php files with Dreamweaver (in fact be very careful when editing any file with Dreamweaver). Although DW has many nice things going for it, it has a nasty habit of trying to 'fix' things that aren't necessarily broken ... for example, it likes to close any tags that it thinks have been left open, and it looks like this is what has happened to your file.

IF you are lucky, the superfluous </html> tag that I pointed out (the first one in the file) MAY be the only thing it has 'fixed', but I also wouldn't be surprised if it has also closed some of the <tr> or <td> tags in places it shouldn't have, and these will be difficult to identify and will totally mess the page.

I also suggest you read this short FAQ about using Dreamweaver with zencart:

Re: Page wont load after sign up. and nore will others, Help PLEASE :)

i dont suppose i could zip up a copy of the theme and the photoshop page and have you try it out? while i work at it too could i? If i am irritating i dont intend on doing so. You seem to know what your talking about, I would pay but it would be a wait cause i go to school and am not to well off currently. I was hoping to do this to generate some extra money while in school, I am picky too and dont want to have it ugly. everything i try to edit breaks it some how its not easy stuff i guess

Sorry, but I have to decline this request. Firstly, I have too many other projects on my plate, secondly, because the request you have made (offering to pay) is actually against the forum rules, there is a commercial help request forum for this, and thirdly I believe that by doing the 'basics' for you doesn't really help you in any way in the longer term.

My 'job' (and passion) is network security, and I am a firm believer that anyone wishing to run an online store MUST have the skills and capabilities needed to keep their sites secure, after all you will be placing yourself in a position whereby you'll have access to customers confidential data (names, addresses, phone numbers, etc), not to mention the possible dealing with credit card numbers, and anyone that doesn't have the most basic of skills to update web pages and install patches really shouldn't be running an online store in the first place, at least not unless they have someone readily on hand to take care of these issues for them when the need arises.

Re: Page wont load after sign up. and nore will others, Help PLEASE :)

oops! i didn't know it was against the forum rules. I can install items that come with instructions, lol it is true that it is harder to take a photoshop file that i made and attempt to implement it into a larger based more complicated item such as zencart. I do understand how to add a patch with instructions, or if it is common sense like adding code some where or replacing file(s) however i think it will take time to figure out how to make my photoshop theme work properly with out help. :) so i deeply appreciate your help so far, not working yet, as i am unsure what to edit to make it look the way i want, i don't want to buy my ssl, or update the security until i get the theme correct, as it so far is the hardest, i have looked online for weeks for a tutorial on how to make a photoshop theme for zen cart but no one shows one how to create their own only how to edit others, which is not hard, my theme is hard for me to figure out how to do it. I agree that one needs to know basics, i am attempting to learn, helps when smart people help us out such as yourself, i did edit out the html broke it a different way, (the single rouge one you pointed out)
thanks for that though too, i have started over with my store front about 7 times so far, i did get closer then the first attempt The theme shows up the way i want for the most part but pages wont load in like they should hence my original posting lol Some days its frustrating ya know. heh heh heh as for having some one readily available i am pretty much on my own there, no family and friends dont know anything about computers so im toughing life on my own. I understand how php works, i dont understand how to script it, i know a server hosting a page has MySQL and apatche (php5) and those are what makes your site coding display the way you make it, I understand paths and such need to be consistent, and paths have to be correct i just dont know the programing language yet for them all. I ordered books, but they wont come for a weekish, and i don't want to wait a year to put the site up and running. lol Oki talked enough thank you for all and any future help i appreciate it much!

Laura_Price:

oops! i didn't know it was against the forum rules.

Actually you probably did nothing wrong by asking, but for 'commercial help' you are best served by asking in the appropriate section.

What WOULD be against the rules (or at least unethical) is for me to accept a paid job offer via this forum.

Laura_Price:

however i think it will take time to figure out how to make my photoshop theme work properly with out help. :)

Yet another good reason why I wouldn't consider helping you as a paid task, I've really no experience with photoshop themes and zencart integration anyway, so it'd be unfair to you as well.

Laura_Price:

i have looked online for weeks for a tutorial on how to make a photoshop theme for zen cart but no one shows one how to create their own only how to edit others, which is not hard,

I'm in the same situation too ... no experience in this area at all.

Laura_Price:

my theme is hard for me to figure out how to do it. I agree that one needs to know basics, i am attempting to learn, helps when smart people help us out such as yourself,

Awwww, shucks.

Like most people though, I'm only 'smart' in certain areas, and those are the areas where I try to help.

I'm also smart enough to accept that I can't, don't, and never will know all there is to know about any given topic.

Laura_Price:

i did edit out the html broke it a different way, (the single rouge one you pointed out)

Also what I suspected, which is why I suggest you start afresh rather than attempt to fix the many things that could possibly get broken when using a WYSIWIG editor.

Laura_Price:

i just dont know the programing language yet for them all.

This shouldn't really discourage you. It is pretty rare for the average user to need to know PHP in order to setup a zencart store in the way they would like it. The fact that you know what php is, and what it does even puts you a step or two ahead of many users.

Did you follow that link I sent you to the FAQ file dealing with WYSIWYG editors? If not, I really think you should. Things may make a little more sense to you, especially in regards to the interaction between .php and this type of editor.

Anyway, if you still need commercial help (it is free to post) here is the link:

Re: Page wont load after sign up. and nore will others, Help PLEASE :)

Oh yes i did and it did help lol now i don't trust DW at all lol heh
So my next thoughts are to try to make the entire thing CSS based,
Cause it should be safer than trying to use frames and such, Know i don't know a whole lot about that either, however i know enough to start playing with it, i also found a great few videos on my CS3 DVD that are helping with the understanding of it all, so hopefully i will figure it out this way. i don't know exactly what i am doing still but from what i read CSS is a better way to try to get my theme working with zen cart. i will still have to figure out how to make it show the correct way, but from what i understand you can make the CSS separate from the main index and use less codes in the zencart index to make it all work so it displays the correct way. Wish me luck? (yes i need it)

Laura_Price:

So my next thoughts are to try to make the entire thing CSS based,

A wise idea.

Laura_Price:

Cause it should be safer than trying to use frames and such,

Yeah, using frames is so 'last century'

Laura_Price:

Know i don't know a whole lot about that either, however i know enough to start playing with it, i also found a great few videos on my CS3 DVD that are helping with the understanding of it all, so hopefully i will figure it out this way.

It is certainly worth learning. It takes things back to the way things are supposed to be, namely, the separation of content and presentation.

Laura_Price:

i don't know exactly what i am doing still but from what i read CSS is a better way to try to get my theme working with zen cart.

CSS still isn't without its flaws though, not all web browsers (or versions of any given web browser) will display the same page(s) in the exact same ways.

Nonetherless, frames can exhibit the same type of behaviour, so you certainly won't be any worse off, and CSS does have many great things going for it, such as the ability to make a change in one place and have the change reflected across the entire website. This is something that can't be done with any other means.

Laura_Price:

i will still have to figure out how to make it show the correct way, but from what i understand you can make the CSS separate from the main index and use less codes in the zencart index to make it all work so it displays the correct way. Wish me luck? (yes i need it)

OK, good luck, but you won't need it. CSS isn't a matter of luck, it is more a matter of experimentation and trial and error.

Also, just in case you haven't discovered it yet, the use of Firefox with its 'firebug' extension is an excellent way to 'experiment' with CSS.
It lets you see the effects of changing CSS attributes on 'live' web pages with no chance of actually messing things up in a permanent way. Once you figure out what works you then cut/paste your changes into the actual .css file(s) to make them 'permanent'.

Cheers

I just downloaded that it works good. I started watching alot of CSS videos, and most of them make sense. lol some not so much, i blame the "teacher(s)" lol Web design is not that easy no wonder people charge alot for making things, it take a while to learn, and i am sure even if you know it all, it takes time to make it the way people want..

I need a lot of beer to pull this one off, Or vodka lol and a little luck figuring it all out. (yes i am not a light weight i can drink, i blame the Irish in me!

I almost wonder if it would be better to buy a already made theme change a photo to get the store online sooner, then make a second store to figure this theme stuff out, so i can try to make some money for school and such while i learn what i am doing...
