Standard rate appearing / Paypal

I've disabled nearly all shipping methods. I want to just have one type which says we will contact client about shipping cost - I thought I would use the Pick-up module for this and modify some of the text. But the standard rate still shows. I notice that our PayPal profile shows postage details. How can I disable this? Is it related to the problem of showing the standard rate. I am pretty sure I have turned off nearly all shipping modules including under Configuration.

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

I'm unclear why you mention PayPal here. Is something unique happening with PayPal that's not happening with any other options on your site?

Additionally, you've not indicated which PayPal module you're talking about.

And, you chose not to supply answers to all the questions which were asked on the screen when you posted your question. Click "Reply" below, and answer all the questions asked in the Posting Tips section of the page that appears.

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

ZC1.3.8a. New install. Add-ons: price-list; purchase order; easy populate;db backup; eu std transfer, rss static.

I mention PayPal because they have postal preferences in the account set-up. I'm using PayPal std and Express checkout (is this doubling up?).

I've searched all the Forums which is why I've titled my question as it is - to make it easier if someone has a similar problem. Thanks for any help.

Okay, well ... if you want to disable a particular shipping module, just go to Admin->Modules->Shipping, click on the module you want to stop using, and click "Remove".

Yes, that's pointless duplication. Turn off (click "Remove") PayPal IPN/Standard if you're using Express.

I've removed all shipping except for Ask for a quote but I still get the order total showing as above with the word Standard and an amount of GBP2.79 - why is this?

Thanks.

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

Perhaps it's not a shipping module at all? Maybe you've got a custom order-total module added that's outputting something undesired?

I really can't guess what you've got happening on your site. What you've described isn't how Zen Cart works out-of-the-box. Maybe you need to do a complete assessment of what's different between your site and a brand new clean install, and figure out what those differences may imply for you. http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Diagnosing_Obscure_Issues
And also compare all your settings in your various admin menus as well.

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

If I wanted to do a complete reinstall is there a checklist somewhere? Does it work to protect the original theme folder and two configure files (admin and includes). Delete everything else and reinstall. Would that work? Quicker than comparing files with WinMerge... Thanks for your help.

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

Sorry! This has nothing to do with shipping - it is the way the tax is laid out. What has confused me is that the sales tax is referred to as standard - I worked this out by realising that this rate was always a percentage of the total.

I've searched all the files to change this word to something a little more descriptive but the searches didn't reveal a file which appeared relevant. I would like to change this e.g. Standard = "Sales tax". Do you know where I would find this?

Thanks again.

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

If you're referring to tax numbers generated by Zen Cart, you can set the descriptions for your Tax Rates in Admin->Locations/Taxes->Tax Rates.
If you're referring to tax calculations you've told PayPal to do in your PayPal account, you'll be unable to complete transactions properly if you're using PayPal Website Payments Standard. (You must disable all tax and shipping options in your PayPal profile if you're going to use Standard with your webstore. Ref: http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/PayPal )

Re: Standard rate appearing / Paypal

OK, silly me. The reference to 'Standard' comes from the description saved in the >Locations/taxes>Tax rates> and the description applied in the edit fields of the various tax rates. Tiny thing which eludes one when one sets these things up. Thanks for your help though.
